The roast malt really comes through up front followed by some definite bitterness. Notes of earthy hops and baking chocolate. Mouthfeel was a bit chalky.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 4, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Nice porter smell even with the glass at arm’s length. Pours dark, of course, with a chunky tan body. Close-up, it smells like a bit of roasty malt, some chocolate and coffee roast. Taste comes up a little thin and watery at first impression. But plenty of traditional porter working there. Seems like old-fashioned roast malt that make me think of smoke, but no smoke in reality. Some caramel sweetness countered by the bitterness of malt. Kind of rough like frontier beer, but then followed with a civilizing smoothness. Hops demonstrate no excessive character themselves, just emphasize the coffee malt bitterness. It’s a dichotomy in itself, but likable. MaltOne (61), USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Nice session dark. Slight toasted yeast aroma. Pale brown head, near opaque reddish, brown. Nice bitter, toasted front with a slight toffee after taste. Flavors linger on the palate for an acceptable time, and stasy true to the oiginal experience. Overall - a pleasant beer. drewbeerme (2295), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 26, 2008 12oz bottle. thanks holdenn for the bottle. pours very dark brown with beige head. nose is chocolatey with grainy cereal notes. flavor is a bit better than the nose, some milk chocolate, mild dark fruityness, but a big grainy tasting finish with some bitter hops in there too. watery body. oddly bitter in the finish. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2008 12 oz bottle from discount liquors. Pours a dark brown with a beige head that fades to wispy lines. Nose is more stout like. Chocolatey creamy malts. Bitter chocolates, roasted malts, anise, and a strong herbal presence in the flavor. The herbal note is almost minty and bitter. Decent beer. Immy (1911), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

Very dark - almost black garnet with a thick light brown head. Dark chocolate nose, a bit of anise, some coffee. Delightful flavors of bittersweet chocolate and lightly roasted malt. Medium, satiny body, spotty lace. Mildly dry mocha finish. Nice stuff! rb (15), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 9, 2008 I didn’t care for this among porters. Clear brown, cream-ish head. Notes of smoke among the cocoa and wood, though the flavor is rather tempered. Body is a bit thin, limp. Not the best of Tyranena, which has some good ones.
