| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 24, 2008 Cold coffee aroma. Mild malt and burnt coffee flavor. Thick and heavy palate, but I’m not sure what the big deal is with this one. Is it a a little above average coffee beer. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 23, 2008 Updated: May 24, 2008Ultra creamy thanks to the oatmeal and roasted near-burnt coffee bean reminding me of licorice tasting sambuca shots that we would flame and then toss in a couple coffee beans to get them roasted for a nice cruncy finish. Throwing it down while flaiming was a dangerous bid. Super long finish just like this fine porter. Memories... Oh well... the bourbon barrel aging comes through and I like that it is not too sweet. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 22, 2008 Hardly any head and a dark, opaque body. Coffee, chocolate and vanilla on the nose. Flavor is like a roasty chocolate, if that’s possible. Didn’t get the bourbon, but it’s aight anyway. Definitely let it warm up a bit before drinking. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 21, 2008 12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s in Beloit, WI (May 2008), consumed at cellar temperature from a wholly inappropriate straight-sided Christmas waterglass, but I’m here unexpectedly and what can ya do?....jet black, opaque to sunlight, with a bit of lasting dark cream head.....fairly "dark" chocolaty, lightly bourbon/corn/vanilla hued aroma but predominantly roasty, touch of toffee and espresso....the body is beautifully rich and creamy, just marvellously textured, caramelized chocolate-covered coffee beans marinating in roasty bourbon vanilla syrup, finishing heavily toasty and moderately bitter, lightly burnt....carbonation is low, hops not really noticeable but not really required for this sort of thing, either. Quite appealing. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 19, 2008 Black with no head. Aroma is heavy coffee, roasted malt, caramel. Taste is heavily roasted, cold coffee, caramel, light alcohol, super roasty. Could go a bit sweeter on this one, but top notch stuff. HonkeyBra (1346), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 18, 2008 Lets say I’m drinking beers with my favorite dude to drink beer with, CaryTheDude, and he hands me this Imperial Porter. I’d take a sip and say "why’d you hand me a Starbucks drink?" He’s say, "Oh no, this is a Wisconsin Imperial Porter, and I wouldn’t believe him. The aroma is straight up coffee grounds. The taste is coffee with some milk and some sugar. Maybe a bit of chocolate. For a beer, it tastes a lot like a starbucks drink. But it has alcohol. I let my second bottle warm up a bit and some more porter flavors came through: some chocolate, some malt, didn’t really get any hops. I Don’t know about this one, but it’s not offensive. I didn’t get a lot of the bourbon barrel, but if the point of the brew is to change my perspective on beer, then it did its job. BDR (2162), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2008 Dark dark color with faint head. Coffee aroma with faint oak. Malty body with strong coffee and hints of bourbon. heemer77 (4305), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2008 Thanks for the bottle, Mark! Pours a perfect black with a light tan head. The aroma has light coffee and some notes of soybeans. There is also some ashtray. The taste has rich notes of cola, anise and coffee. This has a thick and slick, oily body. There is also a little bit of soybean character. There is only a hint of barrel aging. This is a nice brew, but nothing subtle.
