HogTownHarry (3141), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada May 7, 2008 Bottle (12oz). Shared with Garthicus, bottle via trade with Oakbluff - thanks, Scott!. Extremely deep ruby pour, not much head. Pretty standard dry deep roast porter, decent sharp cereal grain and some thick vinous almost salty stickiness. The taste is very roasty, very syrupy and almost like port with persimmon tartness - very nice. Thick, moderately acid mouthfeel, long roast/bitter finish - I don’t get a lot of rye in it, but it does reveal as fairly alcoholic in the finish. Nice.
riversideAK (1456), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle from pepsican. Thanks dude! Pours pretty much black with a thin tan head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, earth, and whiskey. Flavors f roasted malts, some chocolate, and some earth that is complimented by some whiskey notes and rye malts. The subtle barrell aging really works well with this one creating a very tasty beverage. Creamy with a little booze in the finish. DragonStout (1138), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 10, 2008 Poured black with a lacing khaki head. The nose was boozy with chocolate and wood. Flavor was nicely balanced with whiskey notes that weren’t too warm, some wood, chocolate and spice.Finished off slightly bitter with a small alcohol warming. RCL (964), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Jul 1, 2008 Great rye and bourbon aroma. Dark brown, nearly black pour. Flavor leans towards lightly sweet. Lighter rye spiciness. Seems to be just the right amount of oak, wouldn’t want anymore or it could get too astringent. Gimme a sponge bath in this! I would like to smell like it all day long. MrBendo (974), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jun 30, 2008 Thanks to JCapriotti and Ughsmash who both sent some Wisconsin goodness in 12oz bottles. A dark brown pour with a smallish head. Aroma of dark malts, whiskey and wood, coffee and some vanilla. Taste is sweet with some dark fruits. Medium-heavy body. Davecooks (1128), Bay Area, California, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bottle via trade with Stine. A pitch black pour with light tan had that fades away pretty quickly. Chocolate malt and coffee aroma with some bourbon notes. Full mouth feel. Bready with some strong bourbon notes. Sharp and a bit astringent. Chocolate notes. Somewhat sweet, lingering finish that cleans up quickly. This is a big porter. I continue to be impressed by this brewery.
