ElGaucho (1719), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 30, 2008 Bottle served by Tyranena reps at Grand Reopening of Acadia Cafe in Minneapolis. Sweet, chocolate aroma. Black, opaque body, light brown head. Served in a plastic cup. No lace. Chocolate flavor with some fruit. . High alcohol profile, but not too strong. One of Tyranena’s best brews.
RCL (948), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Jul 1, 2008 Great rye and bourbon aroma. Dark brown, nearly black pour. Flavor leans towards lightly sweet. Lighter rye spiciness. Seems to be just the right amount of oak, wouldn’t want anymore or it could get too astringent. Gimme a sponge bath in this! I would like to smell like it all day long. MrBendo (968), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jun 30, 2008 Thanks to JCapriotti and Ughsmash who both sent some Wisconsin goodness in 12oz bottles. A dark brown pour with a smallish head. Aroma of dark malts, whiskey and wood, coffee and some vanilla. Taste is sweet with some dark fruits. Medium-heavy body. Davecooks (1126), Bay Area, California, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bottle via trade with Stine. A pitch black pour with light tan had that fades away pretty quickly. Chocolate malt and coffee aroma with some bourbon notes. Full mouth feel. Bready with some strong bourbon notes. Sharp and a bit astringent. Chocolate notes. Somewhat sweet, lingering finish that cleans up quickly. This is a big porter. I continue to be impressed by this brewery. JCB (828), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 18, 2008 12oz bottle from MrBendo - thanks, Todd!! The pour is a bit flat, with very minimal carbonation and the mouthfeel ended up being slightly too thin as well. But overall this is yet another fine - and not over the top - barrel-aged beer from this very cool brewery. The same sweetness of the barrel is here as I remember from High Class Broad and others, but there’s a sharpness in there that’s pleasantly distinct and gives needed balance. Again, a bit thin and I wanted more of the porter in there, more bready goodness, but it’s a fine beer for sure. Rciesla (708), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 18, 2008 Bottle. Scored on my last beer trip. Pours a dark brown black body with little to no lacing. Aroma is rye, some whiskey and lots of malt. Flavor is sweet malty then quickly a dry rye flavor with some whiskey comes out . A very dry finish with some warming in the finish. Good Beer.
