Bottle from Ryan This one I have wanted to try for a decent amount of time. Based on what it looked like through the bottle, I had no idea it was going to pour out as dark as it did. Smell is full of rye, some alcohol, some whiskey notes, oak, sugars, coffee, caramel, chocolate, just plain awesome smelling. Taste is smooth and rich with plenty of whiskey notes, some vanilla, roasted malts, coffee, toffee, chocolate, just real smooth and real easy to drink. Almost like drinking a chocolate bar full of Rye. Good shit, real good.
12 fl oz bottle (Bottled on who knows, but somehow Craig found a date), from Juelze drank by myself. Thanks a ton Ryan! Drank from a stone imperial stout snifter. Bottle came via UPS ground. Was shipped on approx 5/5/2008. Consumed on 5/14/2008. The drivers name who delivered it was Rich. I did not have to sign for it. It was in box 1 of 2 that I got from Ryan. The box had a lot of tape on it, and it was stuffed with Styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap. Very good packaging job. Thanks for this beer. Rating number 1469 for me.
fiver29 (276), Strongsville, Ohio, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bottle pours pitch black with a thin off white head. Has a slight aroma that consists of slight bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla. Has a medium to heavy body. Taste is very nice. Has a creaminess with bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and finishes smooth with all of these flavors on the back side. This is a solid brew. valpoaj (283), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA Aug 17, 2008 Pours a deep chocolate with a good one finger tan head that settles quickly but leaves a nice film. Aroma is heavy on rye, roasted malts, and some coffee accents...very pleasant overall. Flavor is, well, surprisingly good. Lots of rye flavors, with heavy doses of milky chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and a bit of a spice note as well. Palate is very good...not too heavy, but has a very smooth mouthfeel. This was a very nice porter for the summer months, and the aging in the rye whiskey barrels gave it a great extra dimension without overwhelming the beer...probably my favorite from Tyranena to date. Sammy (3023), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 16, 2008 Thanks for the trade Packforever1976. A rich and tasty porter, owing to the inclusion of the rye which gives it a spicy and malty sweetness. A baltic? well I don’t know. Well Above average mouthfeel. Baumgartner (58), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle poured to glass. Pours brownish, black with a small tan head. Strong roasted malt aroma. Creamy bubbles on the lips. Whiskey barrel flavor melds very nicely with the porter beer style. Very wonderful brew. The bottle has it right "Brewers Gone Wild! A series of Big, Bold, Ballsy Beers" StFun (289), Indiana, USA Aug 12, 2008 A perfect example of a beer that probably should be ranked higher (by me), but that is missing that final *something* to push it into elite status. Don’t get me wrong, this is a hell of a beer in every way. The aroma is complete and total rye, complete with the sharp spice notes of rye bread. Beers looks exceptional. Texture is smooth, and everything goes down just as it should (a phrase probabky fitting for a dirty old man). The flavor is spot on, great balance of malt and rye, and a nice note of bourbon in the background. The bourbon doesn’t really seem to fit though. Never boozy, but I can’t help but think how much better this might have been without the bourbon and with more hops or malt. Anyways, great brew!
