The Dan Journal #228. Tasted 8/20/08. 12oz bottle. Pitch and dark hued. Bubbled head. Cocoa woody nose. Bitter with a whiskey burn. Touch vanilla and peppery. Full bodied and slick. Tasty and bitter. Dry finish blended with the woody malty character. This is a damn fine porter!

Bottle pours pitch black with a thin off white head. Has a slight aroma that consists of slight bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla. Has a medium to heavy body. Taste is very nice. Has a creaminess with bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and finishes smooth with all of these flavors on the back side. This is a solid brew.

Pours a deep chocolate with a good one finger tan head that settles quickly but leaves a nice film. Aroma is heavy on rye, roasted malts, and some coffee accents...very pleasant overall. Flavor is, well, surprisingly good. Lots of rye flavors, with heavy doses of milky chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and a bit of a spice note as well. Palate is very good...not too heavy, but has a very smooth mouthfeel. This was a very nice porter for the summer months, and the aging in the rye whiskey barrels gave it a great extra dimension without overwhelming the beer...probably my favorite from Tyranena to date.

Thanks for the trade Packforever1976. A rich and tasty porter, owing to the inclusion of the rye which gives it a spicy and malty sweetness. A baltic? well I don’t know. Well Above average mouthfeel.

Bottle poured to glass. Pours brownish, black with a small tan head. Strong roasted malt aroma. Creamy bubbles on the lips. Whiskey barrel flavor melds very nicely with the porter beer style. Very wonderful brew. The bottle has it right "Brewers Gone Wild! A series of Big, Bold, Ballsy Beers"

A perfect example of a beer that probably should be ranked higher (by me), but that is missing that final *something* to push it into elite status. Don’t get me wrong, this is a hell of a beer in every way. The aroma is complete and total rye, complete with the sharp spice notes of rye bread. Beers looks exceptional. Texture is smooth, and everything goes down just as it should (a phrase probabky fitting for a dirty old man). The flavor is spot on, great balance of malt and rye, and a nice note of bourbon in the background. The bourbon doesn’t really seem to fit though. Never boozy, but I can’t help but think how much better this might have been without the bourbon and with more hops or malt. Anyways, great brew!

Great Taste 2008, but rating from a bottle opened the next day. This was an homage to all things rye, a spicey and toasted oak beer with notes of soy, dark chocolate, and oatmeal with whole cream. Finish is burnt sugar, oak, and vanilla. Nice stuff.

Bottle. Poured black with a thin tan head. Sweet caramel and coffee aroma. Nice roast malt flavor with a good hop backing. Medium for full body with a wonderful creamy feeling. Very nice!!
