Great Taste 2008, but rating from a bottle opened the next day. This was an homage to all things rye, a spicey and toasted oak beer with notes of soy, dark chocolate, and oatmeal with whole cream. Finish is burnt sugar, oak, and vanilla. Nice stuff.

Bottle. Poured black with a thin tan head. Sweet caramel and coffee aroma. Nice roast malt flavor with a good hop backing. Medium for full body with a wonderful creamy feeling. Very nice!!

Dense black with not much head, though it clings in concentric rings. Wonderful whiskey aroma. The porter flavors are almost understated, though the rye and some coffee does come through. Surprisingly, this works well with the heavy overlay of whiskey. The mouthfeel is just perfect, silky and just dense enough. Very, very enjoyable.

Pours a near black with basically no head. Huge rye bread and coffee aroma with lesser notes of whiskey and chocolate. I love rye beers and I love beers aged in whisky barrels so this is right up my alley. Fantastic mouthful, ever so creamy, somewhat light fizzy carbonation and the rye malt makes it just a bit glassy too, not too heavy but just right. Really mellow for all the big flavors, nice balance. Milk chocolate, rye, whiskey, light coffee. Small amount of barrel and sweet rye in the finish. Really an enjoyable and drinkable beer, 8% seems just right for this. Comparable and probably better than Ola Dubh and Paradox. 8.4.9.5.17 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [rerate fresh batch 11.13.09] Aroma is... eh... okay...flavor is quite roast, just rich enough, love the rye spiciness, biut of coffee but not overwhelming like in their other porters, bourbon is faint but very nice, great little kick on the finish, delicious beer. Medium bodied with ample fizzy carbonation . 7.4.9.4.17

Pours like whiskey, both in color and in nose, with some decent rye in the nose and flavor as well. A bit oxidized. Dry tannic finish.

Pours a deep brownish black colour with absolutely no head. pours heavily, almost syrupy into the glass. Aroma is of carmel, dark chocolate and possibly peanut butter. Mouthfeel is very creamy, smooth and rich with lots of flavor. It has a tiny bit of alcohol taste in the finish, but the for the most part is comforting and relaxed in taste.

(12 oz. Bottle courtesy of Headbanger). Aroma is roasted and chocolaty. Color is black with good carbonation and a very thick tight tan head. Taste is deep and roasted. Starting with a full body it goes down smooth and fizzy. Finish comes in with a bold roasted flavor that seems sweet with coffee and chocolate in it, then a mellow bitterness. After taste has a little alcohol and a slight whiskey taste. Overall this is a very tasty Porter and the first Imperial Porter I think I have had.

Brown red pour with light tan head and lace. Roaste malt and light coffee on the nose. Burnt coffee on a semi sweet taste with a very good finishing bitter. Full bodied and good carbonation. Very nice all round porter.
