Pours dark and thick like motor oil with a thin, light-brown head. nose is of coffee, chocolate and smoke. Taste is like the nose with roasty malt, coffee and chocolate. Whiskey does not overwhelm like other BA brews I’ve had. Thankfully. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy like a stout, yet a smooth bitterness that is very nice. Liked this. akevitt (97), Valhalla, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 6, 2008 [Bottle] Near opaque dark reddish-brown with thin tan foam. In the aroma and flavor there was sweet rye malt and whiskey. Faint chocolate flavor came out as it warmed. Nice heavy mouth feel. Malty chocolate finish. Feels like I’ve had this beer before... If the rye would have been a bit more pronounced it would separated this beer from the rest of the pack. A good deal for the price. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Light brown pour but appears fairly dark in the glass. Large, light mahogany colored head. Sparse aromas of hazelnut and mocha, with a touch of sweet whiskey. Flavors of sweet whiskey and some dark malts notes. I don’t care for these Tyranena barrel aged beers. They seem so dead to me in character and they lack texture. TomDecapolis (3168), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Pours a deep brown with some chestnut notes and a smaller bubbly tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, nuts, rye, light whiskey, vanilla, oaky and a little earthy with some coffee notes. Flavor was pretty much a match of the aroma all the same goodness going on. These barrel aged Porters in the Brewers Gone Wild! series are top notch. IPAaLLtHEwAY (136), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA

Flavor is of chocolate and coffee with some spice and some booziness. Very nice over all. aracauna (2383), Georgia, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2008 12 oz. bottle - thanks to after4ever for breaking this out and popping my tyranena cherry; jet black with thin tan head; thin body, but a nice creamy and flat texture; whiskey is there, but on the smooth, mild side; other aromas of chocolate and roasty rye; drinks with a slightly bitter finish and the rye gives off a little spice kick to it; palate got bombed out this night, but this one remains memorable; thanks tom illinismitty (1797), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 3, 2008 Updated: Jul 25, 2008Bottle at Noogfest 08. Pours brown/black with wisp of a brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, charred malt, and oats. Full bodied with a slick mouthfeel. Flavor of chocolate, coffee, and slight vanilla. Mid palate gets fairly aggressive with the hop bitterness and the bittersweet accents of the rye. Very subtle wood notes on the finish. This was not bad, but I think some of the characteristics lacked some harmony and was not up to par with Tyranenas other offerings.
