Dark beer with a one finger creamy beige head that left sheets of sticky lace. Nose of whiskey, oak, chocolate and lightly toasted grain. This is a very smooth, thick beer, with the mouthfeel of a melted Wendy’s Frosty. Tons of chocolate, coffee, oak, vanilla, whiskey, and molassess. This is how to use a barrel to enhance the beer that you put in it. Many thanks to whomever sent me this bottle.

Bottle courtesy of kmweaver. Thanks Ken! Deep brackish brown color. Like dirty swamp water. Nose is dark fruit, some wood notes, cocoa, dark chocolate and coffee. Roasted malts as well. Taste is dark chocolate, roasted malts, soft alcohol, wood, coffee and a touch of vanilla. Body is medium and creamy with very soft carbonation. Ends with more roasted malts, chocolate, alcohol, coffee and wood. Tasty!

Todd’s Tasting Thanks Todd for this one. Quite a nite-cap! Dark brown pour with a big whiskey nose. Complex with hints of toffee, coffee, oak, and chocolate. Seemed way more alcoholic then 7.9%

Another very enjoyable beer from the guys at Tyranena. It’s been a few months since my last trip with one of their beers, so I had been anxiously awaiting to tear into this one. What I got was a really tasty, finely made beer with enough flavor and aroma profiles to make anyone like it. A dark fruity aroma, with nice enough whiskey/choco/coffee combo to make you notice but not overpower you. Very nice, thick pour with a creamy 2-finger thick frothy brown head. The main point of the flavor reminded me of drinking old coffee with a shot of whiskey in it. Chocolate/toffee notes keep things in line with the style. The finish is very smooth and the creamy body coats the mouth evenly, keeping the flavor around for a lot longer. Very nice beer.

About a 1 inch thick head of small brown bubbles. Recedes slowly. Lots or roasted grains, nuts and chocolate in the aroma. Just a feint hint of whisky. Color is a very dark brown with a crimson edge. Lots of roasted grains and a light touch of coffee in the flavor. Extreamly easy drinking. Thick palate with some alcohol presence. Very subtle notes of the barrel aging. Then again only 40% is aged in a barrel. A excellent ratio in my opinon. Finshes strong, creamy and smooth. A damn fine brew.

12oz bottle.
Well I’m not quite as impressed with this stuff as most others seem to be. Pours a nice dark brown-black with a poofy caramel-colored head which eventually settles to a thin layer and leaves bits of lace here and there on the sides. The aroma was remarkably subdued for a beer that seems to promise big, bold, daring things. With heavy inhaling and some concentration I could pick up notes of dry lightly roasted grain, tones of wood and vanilla, and finally some bare hints of dried fruit. Not even the slightest hint of dried fruit showed up in the flavor though, which instead was a rather roast-grain-bitter affair with a fair degree of malt sweetness to temper the bitterness. Hints of whiskey are in there if you look hard enough for them. Full-bodied finish with a solid, fairly viscous palate. <P>With the exploding popularity of barrel-aged beers, and with many of those beers basically shouting "TASTE THE BARREL-AGING PROCESS!!" above all else, I can appreciate subtlety in the barrel-aging process. But here, it’s just too subtle. Tyranena has done barrel-aging subtlety pretty well with some of its other barrel-aged products such as the High-Class Broad and especially its sublime Rocky’s Revenge, which is actually part of their normal year-round lineup. In this case, I have to wonder if it’s worth the trouble of the exotic processes and flavor combinations to produce what ultimately tastes like a really good version of an everyday porter.

Brownish black color. Smell of whiskey, oak, sugar, malt, coffee and coco beans. Taste of whiskey, coco, coffee, malt, nuts, oak, hops and a touch of alcohol. Very balanced. Had this on tap and out of a bottle.

smells and tastes like roasted malts blended with a bit of whisky barreling.....I wish it had a bit more of the aged beer in the blend as I think it would have benifeted from it still a great beer.....
