Bottle from Ryan This one I have wanted to try for a decent amount of time. Based on what it looked like through the bottle, I had no idea it was going to pour out as dark as it did. Smell is full of rye, some alcohol, some whiskey notes, oak, sugars, coffee, caramel, chocolate, just plain awesome smelling. Taste is smooth and rich with plenty of whiskey notes, some vanilla, roasted malts, coffee, toffee, chocolate, just real smooth and real easy to drink. Almost like drinking a chocolate bar full of Rye. Good shit, real good.
12 fl oz bottle (Bottled on who knows, but somehow Craig found a date), from Juelze drank by myself. Thanks a ton Ryan! Drank from a stone imperial stout snifter. Bottle came via UPS ground. Was shipped on approx 5/5/2008. Consumed on 5/14/2008. The drivers name who delivered it was Rich. I did not have to sign for it. It was in box 1 of 2 that I got from Ryan. The box had a lot of tape on it, and it was stuffed with Styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap. Very good packaging job. Thanks for this beer. Rating number 1469 for me. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

"Gimme A Sponge BAth!"
Nearly turning the corner on 40, I wonder if this is where I’m headed...et tu, Rob?
Dark brown in color, beautiful,. toasty tan head keeps command above...lovely looking...
I get the rye, roasty and dry...nicely toasted. Dusted cocoa powder...
Taste: a chocolate bomb, with a muted explosion, dry rye reigns it in. Simply put: someone put peanut butter in my chocolate!
Cool, classical, and utterly satisfactory...not too sweet, not too rich, but with very prominent booziness.
Rye porters seem to be the way to go...put some in a whiskey barrel and you’ve got me on a leash!
Cool...lightly sweet, big time dry, full on flavor, expanse satisfaction.

To the brewers of this beer- please ship your barrels to tomme Arthur so he can properly use them for their intended purpose. Headbanger (1587), Aurora, Illinois, USA

Aroma of rye, toffee, coffee, and some woody aroma. Flavor is of rye, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and toffee. Has a nice bitterness on the back end of this full bodied brew. A very well balanced brew that hides the alcohol fairly well. Tyranena does it again. garthicus (1289), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Shared with Harry: Appearance: Deep brown with a nice little baileys coloured head: Aroma: Like burned oak and cinnamon, some coffee also. Flavour: Altar wine, cream, sticky, creamy, toffee, silky.. sweet but some coffee too, I don’t taste the rye very much but there is some bitterness in the finish. Nice! Oh, and what a great name! | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2008 Bottle (12oz). Shared with Garthicus, bottle via trade with Oakbluff - thanks, Scott!. Extremely deep ruby pour, not much head. Pretty standard dry deep roast porter, decent sharp cereal grain and some thick vinous almost salty stickiness. The taste is very roasty, very syrupy and almost like port with persimmon tartness - very nice. Thick, moderately acid mouthfeel, long roast/bitter finish - I don’t get a lot of rye in it, but it does reveal as fairly alcoholic in the finish. Nice. zathrus13 (1298), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 7, 2008 Cloudy dark brown colour. Big toffee aroma with some light rye notes. Soft, sweet body with interesting figgy, rummy notes. Way sweet, but beautiful luscious malts going on and on isn’t really a bad thing in my book.
