4/29/2008: Short review: Dirty Old Man is an AWESOME beer! Longer review: Dirty Old Man pours much thicker than expected and is much darker than expected. It is opaque, deep ruby brown in color and has a small brown head. The aroma oozes vanilla with a tinge of dark chocolate as well. That’s just the beginning though. The best part is the flavor with TONS of nicely caramelized malt that is sweet and sugary. This is combined with some milk chocolate and nicely balanced with a smooth whisky flavor. The whiskey is definitely there and adds a great flavor without adding any alcohol burn. Vanilla and cream are present in the back and a faint rye spiciness is hidden deep, but can be found if one searches for it. This beer is full-bodied and think, but not syrupy. It is smooth on the palate and has a creamy texture. Dirty Old Man has a fantastic balance of flavors. YUM!

thanks to fantomas for this! Smokey, molasses, with some toasted malts in the aroma. Pours dark brown with a dense tan head. Spicy chocolate malts upfront with smooth oak and a slight smokey flavor, with a lot of vanilla, and a creamy sweet finish. WOW!

Bottle from Stine - thanks! Dark brown color with a light head. Aroma has an interesting roasty-rye mix with some raw woodiness that is really inviting. Flavor is roasty with some rye, toasty malt, vanilla, smooth woodiness, and some hop bite. Nice feel. Unique barrel aged taste that is much lighter than bourbon. Good stuff!

Flossmoor tasting. Pours black with a tanned head. Slightly sour and dry. Aromas of caramel, rye, rugbroed. Touch of alcohol. Dry finish. Didn’t notice any wiskey. But lovely beer.

Bottle shared by footbalm. Pours black with a nice beige head. The aroma was mostly coffee and some rye. The taste was like a basic porter with some nice additions of stron coffee, some rye and a bit of more roasted malts. Pretty nice.

Bottle shared by ogglethorp: Pours an oily black with a tan head. Aroma, roasted malts, coffee, oak, some rye, booze, chocolate. Flavor, roasted malts, dark chocolate, rye, oak, coffee. Oily and thick on the palate, some roasted bitterness on the finish. Pretty tasty.

bottle: pours very dark with a medium quick tan head. aroma is very cocoa, but not much else, surprisingly very small amounts of caramel, no rye or roast. and no barrel aging at all. flavour is smooth and kind of light, some cocoa , light roast. again no rye adn really not much going on with this at all. quite disappointing, it does finish nice adn the best thing is the smoothness.

Shazzam! Mmmmmmm.... Wow, killer beer. Poured with a fine creamy and reminiscent of angelfood candy. Full. rich, and very balanced aroma and flavor. Even maybe a little too subtle. Extremely drinkable. Fine quality. This could easily be served in a gourmet meal along side a sumptuous seared rib eye steak. The whiskey characteristics show up only in the highlights of the beer which is fine by me. Good beer to serve your significant other and prep em for some lust. heh heh. cheers.
