Bottle from Ughsmash, thanks! Almost black and opague. Restricted aroma, something like Dutch ryebread. Thick fluid with ryebread, some tartness, notes of whiskey and licorice. Somewhat alcoholic aftertaste, but a delicious beer!

3-22-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to drewbeerme
Thick black pour with a nice tan head - good head and lacing. Smell is roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor is very nice and balanced. Great roasted flavor with a nice vanilla and whiskey undertone. It is super yummy. Good smooth palate. Very drinkable and alcohol is masked entirely.

12oz bottle from Discount Liquors, Milwaukee. Pours a brown black with a creamy brown head that laces down the glass in horizontal lines. Nose is really nice. Lots of chocolate roast, grain, and dough. Sweet chocolate and dark fruit flavors that are balanced with charred burnt after taste. Touch of noticable alcohol and a little too much fruit in the flavor for my liking. But all around a really good beer.

Thanks to iowaherkeye for the bottle - viscous, dark ruby beer, with almost no head - aroma or oak, vanilla, rye, dough, cinnamon, chocolate - medium bodied - starts with a doughy character and chocolate and caramel sweetness - mild rye and oak components come next (but the barrel components never become dominant), followed by vanilla and notes of whiskey - finishes semi-dry, with tobacco notes and coffee bitterness - not terribly complex, but a nice example of a slightly more understated approach to barrel-aging.

Pours a very dark chestnut brown color. A large, foamy, tan head leaves behind spotty lacing. The nose encompasses notes of chocolate, coffee, caramel, grainy rye, and rich toffee. Definitely says classic porter aromas with notes of rye whiskey lightly interwoven amongst the rich, roasty elements. The flavor shows more of the same, with rich, roasted chocolate and caramel showing a bit of a warm, twangy rye whiskey, as well as an oaken vanilla component. Tastes very full, rich and warm, making for a nice winter time treat. The body is substantial, smooth, and very easy to put down. A great beer that isn’t overly complicated, but is incredibly well executed. Very reminiscent of their High Class Broad brew.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Bockyhorsey - Pours a dark brown color with a large two finger thick light tan head. Decent lacing. Aroma is lightly roasted malt and oak. Flavor is toasted malt, vanilla, light esters, light chocolate and whiskey. Palate is smooth. Medium to full body. Alcohol is fairly well hidden. An excellent beer. Thanks Bill and Wendy.

Pours a dark brown with a large foamy tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma of carroway seeds, with a light whiskey aroma. Flavors of coffee, roasted malts, whiskey, slight vanilla, and dark esters. Smooth beer. A little on the dry side. But overall a good tasting beer.
