Bottle. Pours very silky out of the bottle, black with no light coming through on the edges, very thin light brown head. From a distance I can make out a little of the rye whiskey barrel aroma, but on closer inspection, chocolate, caramel, a little vanilla, rye, whiskey. Taste is chocolate, rye, vanilla, some whiskey. A little hot for 7.9%, seems like more. Texture is silky smooth, nice roasted malt finish. Good brew.

Black with a thick, creamy head and lacing. Aroma of caramel, sweet roasty malts and chocolate. Flavor is thick and creamy. Rich rasted malts and chocolate. A touch of alcohol. Body feels rich and thick with a heavy, creamy finish. GOOD BEER!

From a 12oz Bottle. Courtesy of Stine. Pours a dark, chocolatey brown color, mostly transparent, with a finger of creamy tan head. Fudgy chocolate malt aromas with hints of caramel, rye spice, and a subtle whiskey warmth. Notes of moderate vanilla and a touch of spicy oak. Rich and malty, with hints of anise-like rye spice and a pleasantly restrained barrel character. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a smooth malty texture. Clean chocolate malt flavors with a hint of caramel. Nice integration of dark chocolate malt flavors without extracting any harsh roast bitterness. A pleasant rye spice dances on the tip of the tongue. The caramel whiskey and vanilla oak characters come out toward the finish, mild, but lingering pleasantly into the final smack. A nice beer overall; the malt flavors seem like they’d make a wonderful porter without the whiskey barrel flavors, and the whiskey flavors are a bit restrained to really justify their presence. While good, I get the feeling I’d like it better with either the plain base beer or the raw barrel character before the blend. Thanks, Eben!

12 ounce bottle from Ughsmash. The pour is chocolatey brown with only a slim dark tan ring around the edge. Nice nose. Fudge, rye, a pinch of oak. The flavor is pretty mild. A bit of chocolate. Rye whiskey is there, along with the barrel. Medium body. Average carbonation. Dry finish. A fine beer, but falls short of expectations. Thanks J.

12oz bottle. Dark reddish brown with thin off brown head. Whiskey aroma, yuck. Malty sweet yet dry finish, whiskey-esque flavor. A little thin & I don’t like the flavor at all - I generally a fan of porters & Tyranena but the whiskey just ruined this one.

Courtesy of Quake1028. The aroma is boozy, dark chocolate, bourbon, muted coffee and mild oak. The body is dark brown with a small tan head. Bitter dark chocolate fore followed by coffee, oak, whiskey and vanilla. Thin, but then for a porter it’s not that bad really, it’s just that the flavor intensity fools you into expecting a slightly thicker body.

Bottle. Pours a nice black color with a thin tan head. Aroma of vanilla, roasted malt and dark chocolate. Taste of light rye, coffee, malt and chocolate. Very light alcohol presence. Extremely smooth and well balanced. This is an exceptional brew.

Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is chocolatey with some coffee. Flavor is chocolate, vanilla, coffee, toffee, rye. Finishes very creamy, and has a nice lingering aftertaste that sticks around forever. This is great!
