Pours a roasted coffee color with a ruby tint and a tan head. Smells aggressively of rye and red peppers. Actually, this reminds me a lot of pepper jack cheese. Has a lot of bite in flavor, but it’s conterbalanced by the creaminess of the malt and some bakers cocoa. An interesting combination, but not quite as balanced as the other Tyranena beers I’ve tried. garmonbozia (230), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA

Nicedark red color. lots of caramel with a dry bourbon aftertaste. I’m not crazy about alot of bourban beers but this was nice. Lots of chocolate in the mix also. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2009 Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of over ripe fruits and a bit of oxidation, leading to a dry fruity finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 14, 2009 Dark brown body, almost opaque with a fleeting tan head.
Bourbon and roast malt aroma.
Chocolate, coffee, Bourbon and roast malts.
Smooth subtle and just sweet enough. Not overly complex, but not lacking either. MrChopin (651), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2009 Updated: Aug 13, 2009Bottle thanks to Gloughlouburp!Sepia colored, thin tan head. Chocolate and coffee-esque roasted malt rule the nose, hints of cherry lingering in there. Incredibly silky, smooth body (if a little thin), flavor coming with more chocolate and roasted malt and a definite but restrained and refined whiskey, mostly in the finish. Not that unique, but that palate is something to behold, almost like a chocolate-whiskey candy. BrewDad (2370), Olympia, Washington, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 5, 2009 Black, oily pour with almost no head. Sweet, chocolate aroma with some whiskey, oak, vanilla and coffee. Smooth, velvety chocolate coffee flavor with a light whiskey finish. Very subtle for whiskey aged beer, but very nice. mistersinalin (378), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 4, 2009 Nice malt festival. As it warms you get more of the rye whiskey in the finish. Waiting until summer was a mistake though, this is a winter item.
