Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting on 12/4/08: Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle. This beer pours dark mahogany with a thin dark beige head that diminishes steadily. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, burnt malt and a hint of vanilla. Rich body with a strong roasted malt character and flavors of rye whiskey, cocoa and vanilla. The finish is bittersweet chocolate liquer with a rye aftertaste. Very good all around, this brewer continues to impress.

This poured dark brown in color with a thin head that faded away. The nose showed rich chocolate, coffee and vinous dark fruits. This was medium-bodied and smooth with lots of fresh carbonation. This is very nice but lacks some midpalate power that the Whos Your Daddy had on this night.

Bottle acquired from Sparky27...ERIC ROCKS!!! What a great beer!!! This is my first experience with Tyranena and I will definitely be on the look out for more. Near ebony pour produces a tight brown bag head. Amazing smoky, whisky and vanilla aroma. Quite fragrant. Flavor is molasses, dark chocolate, brown sugar, and just enough rye to make the beer unique. Pretty creamy...wow!!! Thanks again Eric!!!

Bottle 12fl.oz.
Clear medium to dark red brown color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, dark berry notes, wood and whisky. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (220808)

12 oz. bottle. Dark black color with a thin, bubby light tan head. Wonderful whisky aroma with subtle hints of vanilla and toffee. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy. Very low carbonation. Flavor is a treat. Slight smoked, roasted hints blend well with the chocolate undertones. Some rye sweetness. Finish is a bit meaty. Great beer.

12 ounce bottle shared by cdumler. Thanks! Pours pure black with a one-finger medium head. Simply divine aroma with strong whiskey barrels, caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup, toffee and subtle hops. Taste is whisky, smoke, hops, molasses, tobacco, caramel. Full bodied.

An interesting and good beer, to be sure, but not everything I want. Although, I’ve long had a systematic disfavor for rye--I’m starting to think it is a rye allergy or something crazy because I don’t know of any rye beers that have ever sat well with me. Black body, very decent, though not a significant head; quite low on carbonation. Significant wood to this, though not much with rye whiskey. Roasted, chocolate richness, but a somewhat thinner palate--maybe because this is a porter and not a stout--but it creates an odd pairing of a slippery liquid with the rich flavors.
