I’m afraid I’m just not a fan of Oktoberfests so far. They are way too unbalanced, with malts dominating. There is no hop presence in my opinion, just a stickly sweetness that leaves a scratchiness in the back of my throat. It’s got nice amber color and a decent bready aroma, but the metallic scent and taste that I sometimes notice in certain beers is quite apparent in this one. Tyranena makes much better beers than this offering.

12oz bottle. Poured a darker amber color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of flowers, nuts and caramel. Tastes of caramel, nuts and spices. A ’different’ Oktoberfest for sure.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with Ughsmash, thanks Jason!) This is probably the most florally hoppy Oktoberfest style beer I’ve ever sampled, and it doesn’t even begin to resemble the style it’s supposed to. The nose is just bursting with the sweet floral aromas, and really, not much else. I find it unpleasant, and it’s kind of sickening actually. Caramely, very sweet, and very floral in the flavor too, with a buttery and bitter finish. The sweetness becomes somewhat cloying after awhile. Medium bodied and not overcarbonated on the palate. Medium amber color is somewhat hazy, but that doesn’t obscure the dozens of commingling streams of carbonation bubbles rising through the beer. The creamy, ivory head pours to half an inch before settling to a thin layer, but the army of carbonation bubbles keeps the head well stocked and alive. I’ve liked the other three Tyranena offerings I’ve sampled, but yikes, I’m just not liking this one at all.

reddish-caramel color, no head to speak of. aroma is quite buttery, lots of diacetyl and maltiness. flavor is essentiallly the same with a surprisingly modest hop bite.

Pours a very cleaer reddish rusty brown. Little head even with an aggressive pour. Aroma is of sweet malt with caramel and nothing else my dull nose could pick up. Tastes very smooth with caramel, toffee, and strange as it seems butterscotch. I thought I was crazy for picking that up but it looks like I’m not alone. Very sweet and very smooth but not much else going on here. Seems like it’s lacking something. Carbonation IMHO was fine.

Brilliant, magnifying clarity. Lucid orange in color with a creamy, dense and tan foamy head. Aroma is true to style, with caramel, butterscotch, Werthers Originals, corn husks, potatoes and corn flakes. Flavor gently glides in, distinguishing itself as one of the sweeter and less spicy renditions. Sweet caramel, cedar and Smart Start cereal flavor dimensions. Butterscotch, buttered toffee and a slight copper kettle twang, but not overly ambitious. Creamy and smooth on the palate but not much personality. Absence of noble hops and lacking carbonation. Finish has some vanilla and maple similarities. Decent.

Sampled from the tap at Tyranena and brought home a growler. Tyranena’s Oktoberfest was different than others, a good thing. Nutty and rather fruity aroma and flavor. A touch sweet. A good change, a good Oktoberfest.
