Commercial Description:
The Headless Man is brewed in the "old way" of a Düsseldorf-style Altbier. A unique cold lagering process gives this amber ale its smooth taste.

(Tap) Pours a light brown color with a small amount of tan head. Dusty caramel aroma. Sweet malty flavor with some caramel, toffee, and light grassy notes. Smooth, balanced character as well. Average mouthfeel and palate for an altbier. I actually really enjoyed this one.

Aroma is faint, generically malty. Pours a nice clear red amber. A thin beige head rapidly dissipates, spots of lace. Flavor fronts with sweet malts, quickly followed by some grassy hop bitterness. The overall effect is like raw, bitter nuts. The finish has a little caramel, but is dominated by not-so-pleasant sour and stale elements. Medium to thin bodied, but a faint chalkiness and astringency make for an interesting mouthfeel.

Aroma- Clean rich sweet toast and grainy malt aroma, light peppery and perfumy hops, no diacetyl. Appearance-Deep copper with amber highlights, brilliant clarity, light creamy off-white head mostly dissipates. Flavor- Clean crisp malts balanced with a lighter grassy hop bitterness, light chalk tones, bread, toast and caramel malts at the start slowly transition to nutty tones, light mineral and yeasty tones near the end, finishes bitter with sweet nutty flavors, minimal light fruit esters, no diacetyl. Mouthfeel- Medium-bodied, smooth texture, moderate-high carbonation. Overall- A well-balanced malt-forward German-style ale with complimentary hop bitterness, the nutty tones are quite prominent here and reminiscent of brown ales, very easy-drinking with no discernible flaws.

Bottle pours amber color with with a thin white head. Smells of roasted malt and yeast dominate. Has some roasted malt flavors with some toffee and molasses. Has a medium body with a clean finish. Not too bad.
