| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2007 Pours a mahogany shade, mostly transparent. A sweet-musty De Dolle quality on the nose. Definite brandy-barrel elements. Molasses, peat, and toffee hard candies. Rough sugars on the tongue are softened by the vanilla mist of the oak barrel. Caressing waves of bonfire smoke, the kind you can almost inhale. Hints of apple crisp, Christmas spices and the inevitable barrel booze, leading to a lazy, fireside finish. Palate is polished and permeating. A very well-made warmer. TheEnemy (422), Chicago, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 30, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours a chestnut-brown with a nice finger-plus worth of dense, off-white head that eventually settles to a wisp and a ring around the edges of the glass, leaving lots of tasty lace as it goes down. Aroma is disappointingly faint, but when it can be detected it reveals vinous, oak and rich malt with a hint of molasses. Flavor is an incredibly smooth and complex dance of oak, hints of vanilla, hints of brandy/wine/raisins, sweet but not overwhelming dark chocolate malt and judicious roasted grain. Not a lot of hop presence to speak of. Palate is creamy and velvety-smooth almost like a nitro-tap beer. This is a rather well-done beer -- balance of flavors is excellent, and the brandy aspect did not overwhelm the final product at all. Great craftsmanship and restraint shown here. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 29, 2007 Thanks to JK for sharing. Rich amber color with faint head. Caramel and bourbon on the nose. Rich, sweat bourbon body with a smooth finish. Drops of this beer skittered atop the main body for a few seconds after pouring - very cool. JohnC (2268), Mission Viejo, California, USA

What hits you initially is the brandy barrel agiing and how it dominates the nose. It pours dark brown. The body is medium with a roasty flavor highlighted with brandy sweetness sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 27, 2007 thanks, kajerm, for picking this up from wisconsin. i actually just licked the open-cut face of an eggplant to reset my palate before drinking this. before it i had a flemish sour. aroma is chocolate in the front, then the rest is all jack daniels. i don’t drink much whiskey, so that’s what it smells like. less wood and bourbon than a lot of barrel stuff, instead that distinct brand. as i smell it more the whiskey steps aside somewhat and a fruit chocolate really makes it smell great. i’m so surprised by that chocolate. appearance is just like the beer i had before it: deep plum rind color but with some evident suspension lending a thick body. it’s been a while since i’ve had a beer where i could just sit smelling it for a few minutes, but this one does that. i’m glad that whiskey went away. let’s try it... wow, this is a really well crafted beer. as i took the first step, the combination of taste and smell was all jack again, but the flavor was a lot different than expected. a very balanced chocolate base with wood and fruit overtones gave way to a bit of a brandyish finish. it tastes like it has all the liquor contribution without having any direct ethanol flavor or burn. maybe i’m drinking this too cold. smaller sips are better than large ones because you miss a lot of the complexity on the latter. flavor profile is a little shorter than i’d expect/hope. perhaps it’s watered down. i was thinking the other day about how bored i’d gotten with a lot of the beers that fall under this american strong ale category, but this is a welcome change. twenty minutes later... i probably couldn’t drink more than one or two of these at a time, and on another night i might hate this, but right now i think i like it a lot. i’m surprised the std dev isn’t larger. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 24, 2007 Thanks Sersdf...This baby starts off with a gorgeous dark brown viscous pour floating a rocky tan head that faded v...e...r...y slowly. Exuding a great wine and oak aroma...along with deeply roasted dark grains...very inviting. The flavor was big sweet dark roasted malt, burnt toffee, nuts, and maybe a bit of chocolate. What a great beer. The palate seemed a bit watered down, but I refuse to detract because I might have still been goofy from the great nose and flavors. Good job from a great brewery! iowaherkeye (1858), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 21, 2007 12oz Bottled on 23MAR07. Pours a clear brownish copper with a one finger light beige head. First aromas are oak and nuts. There is also some raisins and light smoke. Quite oaky and vanilla-y. Flavor is fairly boozey up front with alcohol, oak, and vanilla, though I don’t think this beer can be anything over 8%. It is still nutty with some sugar cookie dough, brown sugar, and a slightly tongue numbing alcoholic semidry finish. Medium body with a soft carbonation. These Brewers Gone Wild Beers are excellent from these guys. bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA
