(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Hazy, amber golden with a fairly small, off-white head. Aroma of bourbon and caramel. Medium body, sweet caramel notes, again some bourbon - but presumably it’s brandy?? The finish is dry and somewhat alcoholic. 8/3/7/3/15=3.6 180907 fiulijn (7420), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy

The aroma is delicate, it shows evident vanilla. Quite round and smooth mouthfeel, sweet flavor, with sweet caramel and vanilla. Probably a too much sweet (and not complex), but still enjoyable for a late evening.
2007-09-18, bottle, 7-4-8-4-16=39 Cloudy dark amber color. Aroma of malt and barrel. The mouthfeel is very sweet, with good caramel flavor and strong Bourbon vanilla too; and a respectable bitterness at the end, when the alcohol is prickling the tongue. Very good. Pours a reddish brown with a small-bubbled off white head that fades fast but leaves a ring of lace and steady carbonation up the side of my delirium tremens snifter. Nose is sweet and nutty, soms oak and cadied brandy too. Flavor is surprisingly smooth yet very one-demensional and not as complex as the nose suggested. Alcohol noted in the finish but not in the flavor. kramer (2484), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA

Very thin delicate lacing. The nose is quite boozy with brandy being clearly noticable. Slightly chocolaty with some nuttiness and a little alcohol. The barrel is quite in front on the flavor with a boozy brandy obscuring most of what is the underlying Brown Ale. Then again Brown Ales generally aren’t that exciting so maybe that’s a good thing. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a little stickiness. Lingering barrel notes on the finish. Overall, this was more about the barrel than the beer. My least favorite thus far in the Brewers Gone Wild Series. kmweaver (2482), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a dark, clear amber color; off-white head with patchy lacing. Chewy, nougat and toasty oak in the aroma; nice use of the barrel; warming bourbon; well-tempered. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy bourbon, nougat, and candy sugar; not overly sweet, but dense and chewy; pleasant barrel presence, showing toasty oak and butterscotch. Ends with warm buttery bourbon and dough; pleasant finish. Boutip (2390), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada

Aroma of sweet malt with some hints of brandy. Taste is dominated by some sweet malt with some nice touch of brandy without any alcohol being noticeable. I thought it resemble more of a barley wine then a brown ale but very good nonetheless. Body is a bit light with good carbonation and no alcohol. Interesting beer from an interesting brewer that I am just discovering. CharlesDarwin (1849), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA

Barrel noticeable immediately. Pours a middle brown, with edges of amber and rim of white. Flavor is an interesting dense, caramelized malt, with higher barrel alcohols, but not overly hot. Crazy amounts of complex vanilla, tannins and oak. But, this is good barrel use. It’s not harsh or biting. Sure, it’s dominating, there’s really not that much left of the base brown ale (what a weird style to barrel, it’s not surprising it sopped up all the brandy and lost a lot of its original character). There is still some soft, supple warm nut character. Drops of honey. Loads of butterscotch (no, not diacetyl). Really, pretty decent. 5000 (2600), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2007 Bottle: Dark brown in color, slight ruby hue, moderate beige head, foamy, a few rings of lacing.   Sweet nose, candyish, some alcohol that seems to be more Bourbonish than Brandy.   The barrel perhaps?   Underlying Brown Ale is overtaken by the Barrel aging.   Sweet vanilla notes, slightly oakish, with a bit of alcohol, and some maple syrup.   As it warms it becomes more Brandyish and less Bourbon oriented.   Vanilla notes are fairly strong.   Not much in the way of soft roasted malts, as one would associate with a Brown Ale.   Good nonetheless, but what’s underneath?   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Warming finish, lingering vanilla, slightly oakish, notes of Brandy and Bourbon.   Enjoyable, but the underlying beer would perhaps appear to be too light.   Imperial Brown?   Doesn’t seem that way.   I would say average Brown that has been barrel aged for perhaps a bit too long.   Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy it quite a bit, but thought it would be better suited if I thought I was drinking a beer moreso than a stiff drink.   Thanks to KingpinIPA for throwing this one in as a freebie.   I had no idea that it existed.   Thanks Mike!
