Pours deep hazy copper with off white head. The aroma is big hops from grapefruit, pine and grassy hops backed up by mild sweet malts. The taste is big grapefruit hop bitterness that balances the hop flavor with pine to grassy hops. There’s also mild sweeter notes from sweet malts and hints of late addition hop flavor. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 15, 2007 Pours a dark, hazy, burnt-orange amber color. A small, dense, cream colored head crowns the top and shows decent retention. Thick ribbons of lace circle the glass. The aroma shows darkly toasted caramel malts, rich, buttery toffee, naval oranges, sharp grapefruit hops, and some butterscotch candy. You can tell that its intensely hoppy, but I was surprised at how much the rich malts dominated the nose. The flavor starts out with an avalanche of toffee, proving the nose true in its prediction of the massive malt profile. It is not long thereafter, however, that an outright assault of palate stripping grapefruit hops invades. The intensity and bitterness of the hoppy shockwave are rarely encountered in a beer. Caramel and a hint of cream make an attempt to calm things down, but to no avail. The finish is long and bitter, with intense grapefruit and a good deal of grassiness. A thick, full mouthfeel is slightly syrupy, but somehow avoids being overly cloying. This is a huge beer that definitely lives up to its name. Very good for sure, but lacking in the intricate details that make for a world class effort. Dorwart (1831), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 10, 2007 Thin white head of fine bubbles. Reduces to a thin wisp of foam. Plentiful hops aroma but I actually expected a little bit more. Lots of caramel and roasted grains. Dark mahagony in color. Swet and amlty flavor with not a lot of hops presence. There is bitterness but not much resinous or evergreen notes. Caramel malts and some burnt pizza crust. A little flat in the mouth. Finishes dry, roasty and a little bitter. A decent IIPA but I expected more. pantanap (1375), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 9, 2007 12oz bottle-A medium amber body with a decent white covering for a head which has an aroma of grapefruit, citrus, and hops. Smells scrumptous. A nice hop flavor begins on the front end then continues through the mouthful which ends with a nice dry taste thrown in with some malt. A more malty IIPA which in some instances is not bad. I think a nice blend. Great tasting brew. after4ever (2851), Brier, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 4, 2007 12-oz. Thanks, FranksnBeans! Pours deep burnished copper with plenty of goldenb rown highlights. Light swirling gray film of a head. Thick, creamy, tingly-carbed attack. Huge pineapple and mango nose--delectable. Light fruit on the attack and mid-palate, then a huge creosote wash starts breaking in as the mid-palate progresses. The creosote builds and builds, rolls through the finish, and sticks around for quite a while. Great stuff--super intense and powerful. xmarcnolanx (808), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 1, 2007 Slightly alcoholic and malty, caramel aroma.... Taste is somewhat malty, but dank hops, sweet hops with a slight bitterness... somewhat cloying... Very decent. MoDog (927), Griffith, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2007 Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in a tulip. This beer poured a clear, dark amber with a thin beige head that quickly faded away. Only a few large bubbles were left lingering at the top of the glass, leaving just a bit of light lacing. The aroma of the beer was made up of pine, grapefruit, and also caramel. The flavor was overpowered by an upfront grapefruit bitterness. There were also some notes of toffee and caramel sneaking in at the end. The mouthfeel was medium to full-bodied with very minimal carbonation. A decent beer, but the palate seems a little thin with the malts fighting to be noticed.
