Aroma was caramel, citrus, pine and some toffee notes. Flavor had a mild hop bitterness and big hoppy finish. Tasted more like a single IPA than that of a double. Nephilium (553), Ohio, USA

It pours a cloudy reddish-amber, with a tight off-white head. A truly interesting flavor, I’m getting the standard pine and citrus, with hints of pineapple and brown sugar. Nice oily palate, but seems like it could use a bit more carbonation. This is a brewer I wish was distributed in my area... Boutip (2368), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 13, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Monger: Poured a clear medium amber color ale with a small head with average retention but some good lacing. Aroma of hops is dominated by sweet malt. Taste is a balanced mix between sweet malt and a medium bitter finish. I thought this was close to the limit between an IIAP and a barley wine. Body was about average with some medium carbonation and no alcohol was discernable. Nothing earth shattering but an interesting beer nonetheless. scraff (1942), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Hazed dark orangey copper, creamy off white head. Subdued nose of peachy pine, dark caramel, orange marmalade, with faint brown sugar tones at room temp. Flavor is a hoppy mix of fuzzy fruits, citrus, and soft pine that lay over a dark toffee malt backbone. Full bodied and sticky, medium carbonation, dry bitter finish. This was last years version. I’m guessing that fresh, this beer would seriously rock. Still nice now, just not exceptional... Skyview (4055), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA

Pours a coppery amber brew with a thick white head that dissolves slowly. Leaves behind very good lacing and fine film with an island of large bubbles. Aroma of caramel, grapefruit, grassy hops and some pineapple. Taste is thick, creamy, full bodied, with caramel and toffee flavor. The heavy hop bitterness kicks in during the finish and lingers around after the finish. Aftertaste has some grapefruit character. Nice! shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 2, 2007 5/08/2007: An evening of Tyranena IPAs (in order tasted): Tyranena Bitter Woman IPA, Tyranena Bitter Woman From Hell Extra IPA, Tyranena Hop Whore Imperial India Pale Ale...
Tyranena Hop Whore pours a cloudy amber color with a small, foamy head that is ivory in color and receeds to leave a frothy crown. The carbonation appears to be mild to moderate. The aroma is a bit sweet and contains orange citrus hops and a hint of alcohol. The flavor has deeply rich caramel/toffee malts and a smooth, citrusy hop presence. This beer tastes strong, but the alcohol isn’t explicitly apparent in the flavor. The body of this beer approaches full and it is chewy and somewhat thick. However, it is quite soft, smooth, and creamy on the palate. Overall the Tyranena IPAs progress nicely from the Bitter Woman IPA to the Bitter Woman From Hell Extra IPA, to finally the Hop Whore IIPA. With each step the maltiness and body increase and the bitterness become more floral and takes on a perfume-like quality. Nicely done Tyranena (although I am not overly surprised since they do such a great job with all of their beers!).

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2007 I have no idea how I never got around to rating this. 12oz bottle, no date--though I think it was Fall 2006. Pours a hazy orange caramel with a 1/2 finger yellowish white head. Aroma of pine and grapefruity hops, a good caramel malt backbone. It should be noted that the hops have died out a fair amount in this one, and my rating numbers will be from when this was fresh--not now. Flavor has some puckeringly bitter hops up front--perfumey is for sure mainly from the pine--and a fair amount of caramel sweetness to keep things from getting out of hand. Towards the finish I dare say it’s actually swet for a moment. Semidry moderately bitter finish. Creamy moderate carbonation with a full body. Very good, though, as with most IIPA’s, it was better fresh--however eight or so months of cellaring hasn’t exactly hurt it, either. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA
