| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 26, 2007 12oz bottle. Aroma: Big grapefruit and pine aroma with a touch of floral and soap. Sweet maltiness with a strong caramel note. Appearance: Dark amber in color and hazy. Off white head was small, foamy, and short lived. Flavor: Malt is upfront with a nice toasted bread and caramel character. hops come in strong with grapefruit, pine, and resin. Some light floral and grass, too. Medium high bitterness and some lingering sweetness after the finish. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Decent. Hop flavor/aroma not as strong as I would have liked for an IIPA. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 26, 2007 Big hop nose, Pour was a slightly hazy amber with tight, small, off white head. Nice lacing. Nose was a sweet thick hop, grapefruit, pine. WOW! The taste is a complex mixture of sweet, tart , tangy citrus. There is an alcohol warming here. Surprised to see over 100 ratings but no listing for ABV. I enjoyed the hell out of this, thanks for the trade. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 26, 2007 Nice amber, ruby color, small off white head that had a decent hangtime then faded to leave little behind. The aroma was piney and hoppy with a good citrus side and a bit on the sweet side. The flavor is nicely done with a good hop showing some nice citrus notes and a slight pine showing. The alcohol is not very noticable. The brew goes down nicely, with a nice bitterness in the end.Smooth brew all around. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Mar 11, 2007 Pretty bad ass DIPA. Reminded me a lot of winter yulesmith. Pours an orange brown with a white head. Aroma is really spicy and malty...not at all like a huge west coast ipa, but still awesome. Flavor really brings in some of those citrusy hops while balancing well with the great amount of sweet malt. Mouthfeel is just about perfect. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2007 From a 12oz Bottle. Deep, honey amber, transparent pour with a medium layer of fine bubbled white head. A nice lemony hop presence, perhaps Amarillo, wafts lazily from the glass, along with some freshly plucked orange blossoms. A gentle copper caramel malt base and some freshly trimmed rose stalks back up the hoppy garden bouquet nicely. Medium bodied, gently carbonated mouthfeel. Well balanced between caramel malt body and bitter high alpha hop bitterness. The caramel notes are bold yet restrained enough to keep from getting too sweet or sticky. This allows the hop presence to come through bold and strong on the palate with a cleansingly dry bitter finish. Pulpy white grapefruit and resiny spruce bark round out the heavily hopped finish. Definitely some alcohol warmth, but no sharp edges or excessive heat in the finish. Well balanced "malty" IIPA in that is able to provide a satisfying malt and hoppy punch without taking on the excessively sticky or overly metallic characters that so many others in this "style" end up taking on. Thanks, Tom! brentfeesh (1039), Gadsden, Alabama, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 7, 2007 12oz Bottle thanks to Kramer17801. Pours murky-hazy brown. The aroma is a thick sweet malt caramel with sticky orange hops. Flavor has sweet caramel with oranges, and a solid hop presence. There is pleanty of ruby red grapefruit in the bitterness. It’s sticky and yummy. Full of hops and well balanced and sticky malt. Creamy body with a bitter finish. I enjoyed this. Saarlander (1579), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 7, 2007 Nice copper pour with decent head and lacing, nice bitterness followed by malt, sticky on the lips, Malty. Hops are there, and great, but very nicly balanced. Great! Thanks to Duane for the bottle! IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 2, 2007 Much thanks to Dickinsonbeer for this complimentary bottle. Poured a dark amber with a tall fizzy/frothy off-white head. Quite dark for a double IPA. Fresh aroma of some grapefruit and pine hops, some alcohol, some furniture polish. Flavor is dry with pine and lightly citrusy hops coming through first, leading to a large biscuity toffeeish malt backbone. Quite malty for the style, but still has good hop flavor. I’d say this borders almost on being a double red, but this is still a good double IPA without any medicinal character to the alcohol and with nice refreshing hop flavor. Very good.
