Palate is kinda of sticky. Leaves a nice resiny pine bitterness on the tongue. Long finish. crowderm (285), Recklinghausen, Germany

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Nice amber body with a nice head. Aroma of piney and floral hops. Really nice sweet caramels. Flavor is pretty solid. Not a hop bomb, but definitely quite sweet and comes through with some nice floral hops. Nice rounded mouthfeel though. Really solid beer. Hank1980 (776), Athens, Georgia, USA

Tyranena’s Hop Whore fills the pint glass amber with fine, tiny suspended particulate. When backlit the tiny particles refract the light and add orange highlights throughout. A standard pour produced a healthy two finger head that left incredible lacing down the glass as it slowly settled to its lowest point. The lowest the head settles to is one finger. This is an excellent looking beer!
As soon as I stick my nose in the glass I’m greeted by sweetened grapefruit and a piney hoppiness. Every now and then I even get a blast of nectarine. The citric hops take lead but the pine has a solid presence. The caramel maltiness is big to the point it almost balances this beer out. The caramel combines with a biscuity maltiness and comes close to matching the hop profile. I usually enjoy the mouth numbing unbalanced IPAs but this one seems to be calling my name even though it’s more balanced.
The flavor follows the nose stride for stride. The caramel maltiness almost catches up to the hopping but just falls short. The citric hoppiness has a level of sweetness that brings it to the point of tasting like candy. As a matter of fact the candied hoppiness combined with the caramel maltiness and creates an entire drink that’s candy like. Usually this isn’t my style IPA but I’m really enjoying this one.
This beer has a medium body with a touch of clean alcohol heat on the swallow. The carbonation adds a really nice smoothness that keeps things moving. There’s a moderate bitterness that builds on the swallow.
I’m not sure of the abv although it is labeled as an IIPA but this beer is incredibly easy to drink. I can’t hardly keep this beer in the glass long enough to review it. The balance is what makes the drinkability as high as it is.
Hop Whore is another winner from Tyranena. The first bottle I had was ok; the next couple were very good. Like I said a couple times the balanced IIPAs aren’t my favorites but this one just seems to hit the spot.

Pours a nice hazy reddish orange with a small white head. Aroma is citrus, pine, hops, malt. Flavor is bitter oily resinous hops, grapefruit, malt, pine. Nice bitter finish. Nice brew. illidurit (896), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 4, 2009 Translucent amber color with a modest sticky tan head. Subpar retention but it is rather cold. Aroma is equal parts caramel and pineapple with some grapefruit. Bitter underripe grapefruit drupelets with a fleeting caramel and brown sugar sweetness. Nice lingering bitterness with only a little astringency. As it breathes it gets a little sweeter (but not overly so) and a little more complex, which is nice. Quite dry, like a DIPA should be. No alcohol flavor but I can feel it in my chest. Mouthfeel is a little undercarbonated. Body is appropriate but it needs more CO2 to cut through it. Overall a pretty solid beer. pj1855 (158), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 30, 2008 Pours a hazy red with about an inch of foamy white head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Beer has a good start with a taste of sweet malts and finishes rather bitter with some hops and grapefruit.
