I was taken aback by the aroma on this as it was much, much sweeter than I had expected. Caramel malts and brown sugar are just as prevalent, if not more so, than the earthy hops that complement the nose. Hints of pine as well.
The taste follows the nose closely with a bit more hops. There is a definite floral hop presence up front but it gives way quickly to the caramel malts and molasses. I’m getting a little toffee as well and the finish has only the slightest hop bite.
The mouthfeel is heavier than most DIPA and almost chewy with the huge sugary malt backbone.
I really enjoyed this brew from Tyranena and I personally think it leans toward the American barleywine (could be crazy) end of things. It’s no hop bomb but it’s damn tasty. tedovertu (260), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA

Flavor of citrus and pine needles mixed with a small amount of carmel. Not as harsh as the name would elude. Strong nose but mild initial flavor with a little grapefruit in the backend. Pretty good, should try this one by itself instead of tasting it in a sequence of brown ales. nimbleprop (936), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA

Thanks Kevin! 12oz bottle pours a transparent, orange, copper with a thin, tight, creamy white head. Aroma is both sweet and citrus, grapefruit, lemons, toffee, biscuits, gummy candies, orange soda. Flavor is nice too, more bitter citrus, oranges, grapefruits, pine, a little soapy with some candy sweetness, crackers, orange soda, light caramel, sticky fruits. Dry finish that’s bitter, but not mouth puckering. Rather mild for a IIPA but also very drinkable. pouthouse (2), , Minnesota, USA does not count | 1.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 5/5 | 1/10 | 2/5 | 3/20 | Oct 29, 2008 I’m not saying this is a bad beer. It sure does look pretty. It’s just not for me. Hoppy is not my thing. I’m not wild about super carbonation either. The aftertaste reminds me of the smell of ear wax. I tried. plunger (4), , Minnesota, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 29, 2008 i love this beer .the dark amber color and intense hoppy aroma are exellent. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 28, 2008 Pours a reddish copper color with a beige head. Aroma of bitter hops, citrus, floral notes, and caramel. Taste is sweet hops, with a malty caramel backbone. This isn’t as hoppy as I expected. It has more of a dry and citrusy sweetness with caramel malt to counter it. Very enjoyable, but by no means a hop whore. wench (30), st. paul, Minnesota, USA
