Sampled on tap at Tyranena on 9/10/05. This beer is a dark brown/black body that’s not quite pitch black. A good tan head. The aroma is oatmeal and coffee and chocolate. Very smooth aroma. The flavor is a really smooth oatmeal stout. Chocolate and oatmeal. Caramel. Delicious! Wow! VERY NICE. For an oatmeal stout, this is above and beyond my hopes.

On tap at the brewery. Subtle aroma of dark roasted malt and dark chocolate. Dark black with some ruby showing through and a tan head that fades. Oatmeal chocolate flavor, roast comes through in the finish, slightly bitter. Creamy, chalky palate.

Draft, 1850 house. Black body, thin tan head. Somwhat watery flavor - dark roasted malt with coffee accents, some light green hops to break up the sweetness. The medium-light mouthfeel is aided by the oily oatmeal smoothness. Some fluffy, oily coffee in the finish. Peaty, coffeeish aroma. It’s hard to smell anything over the aroma of deep-frying fish.

On tap at the brewery. Smells great - oaty, malty and sweet. Good, rich taste, but lighter than expected. Incorporated elements of solid oak, nuts and earth. A descent stout.
