islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 8, 2009 12 oz. bottle, labeled as Tyranena Paradise by the Dash Board Lights Doubly Blessed Cherry Porter. Remarkably appealing and appetizing aroma of fruit chocolate (dark chocolate with tart, dark cherries). Scents of plum, roasted nut, and a dash of cream. Pours a rich, opaque, dark brown with a small amount of tan head. Some small bubbles noticeable. Decent lacing. Tastes like what it is, a good, solid, robust, milk chocolate porter with a cherry tang in the finish. Lemon flavor. Just the slightest hint of metal, which is unfortunate but not distracting. There are duel aftertastes: A nice tartness and a coffee dryness. Medium body. Soft and creamy in the palate. This is a refreshing, unique, and very good beer! wavers1 (110), novato, California, USA Nov 2, 2009 bottle courtesy of flandersned, thank you! pours a thinner brown with not much head to speak of. aroma is nice, but not big. pretty delicate, fine hints of cherries, just the smoothest part of burnt and smoke flavors come through as well. flavor is nice, the cherries are very subtle, not overpowering at all. they add nicely to only really the back end, but make a nice addition to balance the more bitter front feel. palate is slightly thin, but still a medium amount of body and creamyness. good stuff, can’t wait to try more of their beers! sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Oct 29, 2009 pours rich brown with a small tan head. smells like bitter chocolate covered cherries. sweet malt and a bit of oak. drinks with tart cherries and a bitter chocolate and coffee. sweet malt and molasses. very tasty. jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Oct 28, 2009 Bottle: Dark brown pour with a finger of fluffy, creamy beige head. Thick bits of lacing. Nose is sweet, cherries are easily detectable. Other than that, a little sweet and a little malty. Kinda pedestrian and almost artificial fruity... The taste is where this picks up the pace. Rich, smooth, and balanced. Roasty, chocolate, and a molasses type sweet come toghether. A little candied sugar at the end, right before a light cherry finish. Finishes crisp and tart, with a lingering roasty kick. Fun. BBB63 (4198), La Porte, Indiana, USA Oct 25, 2009 Bottle and served in my NB Worthy glass: Deep brown with ruby highlights topped by a small frothy tan head and spotty lace. The aroma is much more towards a Baltic porter than a fruit beer, lots of chocolatey and roasted malts, fig and very light cherry, chestnut, dried coffee, dusty yeast and some woody notes. The taste is where you can some tart cherry along with some lactic milk tones. Roasty and chocolaty for sure with a mild nutty overtone. Constant dirty yeast component throughout. The mouth feel is soft and a touch oily but is also a tad underwhelming. Disappointing to tell you the truth as the cherry never seems to meld with the base porter IMO. 13mikey (117), New Hope, Minnesota, USA Oct 22, 2009 12 oz bottle from Princeton’s. Dark raisin colored pour with a quickly dissipating head. Coffee aroma with hints of cherry coming through. Flavor is of tart cherry and coffee with some chocolate. Very smooth creamy mouthfeel with the chocolate lingering on the palate. adrian910ss (1394), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 21, 2009 On draft at the brewpub day before DLD 09. Pours a dark cola with a mahogany tint and a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate with light cherries and malt. Taste of roasted malts with hints of chocolate, baking chocolate and light cherries. snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 26, 2009 Bottle brought back from Minnesota. Pours dark brown with a small bubbly beige head. Aroma is relatively subtle with roasty malts and fresh cherries. Flavor is more rich with chocolate, coffee, and char in addition to the tart cherries. The cherry and char linger nicely, but the body could stand to be a little more full.
