Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with a thick off-white head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Maybe a little bit of the bourbon comes through but it mostly seems sugary sweet like vanilla extract and maple syrup. Flavor starts off very caramel malty and sweet. The oak wood and a hint of bourbon flavor comes through nicely in the finish. There is a nice bit of bite that lingers in the finish. Medium body and an active carbonation. Decent brown ale and the bourbon barrel aging really helped it.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a medium off-white head. Caramel and malt sweetness in the nose with just a hint of vanilla. Sweet malt flavors with some of the wood and vanilla from the bourbon barrel coming through.

pours clear light brown with small wispy head, aromas of bourbon and malts taste is of the same, the bourbon is very subtle at best this is a middle of the road brown just doesn’t have enough body to stand up to the big browns of the world

Pours dark, dark brown with a small off-white head that dissipated to a ring fairly quickly leaving decent lacing. The aroma is great with a ton of dark fruits, raisins and grapes, and molasses on top of malt base. The bourbon is definitely present as well in the nose. The taste doesn’t quite live up to the nose for me and tastes a little bit like a grape soda with the huge sweetness of the dark fruits. The first taste is is of sweet malts and nuts up front before giving way to the fruity sweetness and a slight bourbon burn through the finish. The finish is creamy and very carbonated which just coats the mouth. This is a good American brown, though the sweetness was a tad overwhelming for me. Still very good.

Tasted on 5/2/08. Poured this into my Duvel tulip. An aggressive pour leads to a light brown head for a nice amber brown beer. It leaves little lacing in the glass. The smell is of roasted malts and a little bit of the bourbon. The taste is really nice for a brown ale. I get plenty of roasted malts and a great accent of bourbon and vanilla. the mouthfeel is a bit above average and its a nice and drinkable beer.

Bottle, straight-walled pint. Pours a hazy red-brown with a finger’s worth of a cream-colored head. This dissipates after a couple sips, but leaves a nice lacing, and the beer pleasantly foams up again in the mouth while drinking. The aroma provides a toasty hint of bourbon, while tasting pairs the vanilla-cream bourbon element with lemony and grassy hops. Mouthfeel is simultaneously crisp and creamy at first, turns a little astringent at the end. Bittersweet aftertaste, like raw peanuts.

Bottle pours dark brown with a thin off white head. Aroma has a hint of vanilla and caramel. Mouthfeel is medium body with a fair amount of carbonation. Taste is sweet vanilla and caramel upfront with a slight bourbon flavor on the finish. This overall is pretty good. I would drink it again.
