| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 24, 2007 12oz bottle. thanks to xnoxhatex for this one. pours dark ruby with off white head. nose is caramelly with nice hints of oak and bourbon. flavor is initially a bit astringent but the flavor pulls through and delievers a nice bourbon, charred, caramelly profile w/ some dark fruits. mouth feel a tad thin and carbonation felt fizzy. a big flavor that you’d expect in your imperial beers but I couldn’t help but wish for this to just be a bigger beer. i think some alcohol warmth and big hop profile would work nicely. probably be a lot like old viscosity actually. the problem is is that this isn’t really sessionable and that’s what I want in a brown ale and if i want something with this complex roast/chocolate/bourbon flavor i’d usually reach for a bigger beer. perhaps this is a great beer if you want a bigger flavor without the alcohol. however, i usually don’t want that second part. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 22, 2007 12oz bottle-A medium brown with a small head that dissipated into some lacing. Aroma of roasted and sweet malt, chocolate, and some vanilla. Taste of both malts and the bourbon comes out very mildly and not too overpowering. Great balance. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA

Light bourbon bite, but very well balanced and easy drinking. The quality of the bourbon comes out and it is not overpowerful. mcbackus (755), Merritt Island, Florida, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 14, 2007 This brown ale pours a deep brown color from a 12oz bottle. Medium to small sized beige head. Aroma is malty, brown sugar and some bourbon. Medium bodied brown ale. The malts are caramel, fruity, nutty and sweet. The hops are earthy and floral. It starts out like a flavorful brown ale. The nutty and caramel malts stand out and then the bourbon and oak flavors start up. They are there and you can taste them but they add to the overall flavor and not overwhelm everything else. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and a touch dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. holdenn (1449), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 10, 2007 12 oz bottle thanks to xnoxhatex. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Bakers chocolate, toastedness, and red fruits are the strongest characteristics with carmel and bourbon around it. Medium/light body similar flavors chocolate and bourbon to the front. Very fizzy. Decent. But I grow tired of it as I continue. Give me a balanced brown or something "imperialized" not so much this in between stuff. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 2, 2007 12oz bottle from an Italian market in Kenosha, WI. Dark brown, almost opaque, with red tint and medium sized but quickly dissipating tan head. A very strong bourbon aroma hits you first but after a few more snifts I get dark fruit, dough and some caramel. Though the aroma is very much a "can I have some beer with that bourbon aroma" the taste is much more balanced with a strong, rich dark malt backbone and pine hops that actually make the beer much more enjoyable. There is a doughiness that comes about as I role it around my tongue, an excelent counterpart to the bourbon flavor, helping make this beer pretty top notch. The medium body is appropiate but the fizzyness is stinging and actually hurts the beers overall great quality. It’s always interesting when such a big flavored beer is less than 6% abv, especially a bourbon based one. Another thing that I find interesting about this beer is the accessibility of it, normally more abundant than the specialty yellow labeled Tyranena brews, an interesting choice for a not so pedestrian beer.
