Watery bourbon in the nose with hints of molasses. Bourbon flavor sort of dominates a fairly non-descript, slightly chocolatey brown ale. Neat experiment but I probably wouldn’t want to drink it regularly. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 25, 2007 Pours out a nice brown color with a decent beige head. Aroma is sweet. has hints of caramel, semi cweet choco and a very slight vinilla hint. Flavor is very similar, though i had a bit of trouble detecting the bourbon in it. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 23, 2007 Bottled. Poured a slightly hazy medium brown with some red highlights and a short off-white head. The nose picked up sweet bourbon sugars first.. semi-sweet chocolate and hints of oak accent quite nicely. The flavor had a very nice grainy chocolate base with mild accents from the barrel (oak, vanilla, and sweet bourbon)... sticky nutty notes and chocolate at the finish. Grainy on the palate with a decent flow to it... enjoyed this. DrnkMcDermott (1861), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

Definite touch of oak in the taste. Nice roasty ale malts with a sour tinge on top of caramel sweetness. Despite the nose, actually doesn’t taste too alcoholic. Re-rate, March 13, 08. I think I may have originally rated this a few points even above my enthusiastic standards. But still this is an interesting beer. A solid brown malt base that does leave room for impressions from the portion that’s been BA’ed. Definitely something to check. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA

Rocky’s Revenge poured a hazy dark amber with a nice craggy slightly off white head. Carbonation bubbles coming from below. The head sticks around on this one. Stcky white lacing half way through my glass.
The smell is good. Sweet malts come through up front followed by vanilla. There is a nice smoky/roasted scent to finish.
There is a lot of flavors going on. Sweet creamy malt quickly followed by vanilla and oak. The bourbon flavor is right on. After the bourbon this beer finishes with a nice chocolate. A little burnt bitterness comes along after the swallow.
Mouthfeel is good. Creamy and smooth. Medium bodied. Goes down good.
The drinkability suffers a little for the simple fact that this beer is more of a sipper.
Overall Rocky’s Revenge is a very good beer. It says on the bottle that a portion is aged in bourbon barrels. The bourbon flavor is right where it should be. Not too strong. If you see this pick it up. It’s a good beer to give a try. Hopefully it’s still around next time I go up there cause I’ll definately be buying more.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2007 Pours out a chestnut brown- woody smell. The taste is quite sweet, must be the vanilla being picked up from the bourbon. Carbonation is appropriate for the style. Quite a nutty/fruity taste, with low hop levels . I thought the bourbon was quite well done- definitely a bourbon twang on the finish but certainely not in your face. Its an enjoyable brown ale. I’m glad I had a chance to try, but wouldn’t be first choice if I ran into it again.

Im a hop nut, so i would have liked a bit more in there. Only had a couple bourban beers before, and i just dont get into them so much drpimento (865), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA

The barrel flavors and aromas are readily apparent and aesthetically pleasing. Good brown ale characteristics enhanced by the barrel thang. Thin light head does persist along with some lace. Brownish mahoganey color. Toffee aftertaste. very good beer. Had it on draft at Bodega this evening. They have it in bottles too.
