This is far from a BA and I am sorry to the folks I have sent this beer to. HogTownHarry (4005), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 26, 2006 Bottle (12oz). Via trade with iowaherkeye. Poured deep clear ruby with a smallish beige fizzy head. Aroma of roast chocolate malt, plums and a bit of oak, vanilla and floral hops as it warms up. Taste - ahh, there’s the sweet bourbon - it’s mostly oak, vanilla/bourbon and chocolate malt, there must be a decent hop presence because it finishes fairly bitter. Decently thick and silky mouthfeel, average carbonation, a long bourbon/oak finish to it. Pretty smooth and decent, even if I am heartily sick of BA beers ... porterhouse (1154), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 26, 2006 (Bottled 11/17/06 via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/View-User-38026.htm target=blank>buckybeer, thanks Mark!) Interesting but didn’t really work for me...Pours clear and the color of weakly brewed tea. Only about 1/2" of tan head. Aroma to me is mint-like, along with sugary bourbon. Mouthfeel pretty smooth but thinnish. Kind of dryish on the palate. Spotty patches of lacing. Tastes kind of like watery bourbon and mint, maybe some brown sugar. At times feels like a mint julep, and at other times like a boilermaker. Sometimes also just seemed like a pedestrian brown ale with bourbon booziness. More vanilla flavor as it warms. Maybe if there was a ballsier beer underneath this it would be better but I didn’t think it was that great. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2006 Bottle from Styles. Fairly clear, brown colored beer, slightly reddish when backlit. Compact light beige head forms and fades slowly to a ring leaving decent to nice lacing in its wake. Aroma is malty with nice touches of oak, vanilla and bourbon. Medium bodied, nice carbonation. Malty, light chocolate, bourbon and higher alcohols blend pleasantly in the flavor. Pretty decent, a nice job of blending the beer with the barrel without either becoming dominant. jasonp (1510), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 16, 2006 Sampled at Dutch 70’s "Tasting in the Woods; Part Deux." Dark clear brown/amber with a white head. Caramel and bourbon and some sort of artificial element that I can’t quite pinpoint in the nose. Flavor has notes of vanilla, wood, bourbon and caramel. Sweet and a little "boozy". Light bodied with somewhat of a watery texture with subtle carbonation. sliffy (2000), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2006 Bottle: Hazy ruddy brown color with a white head. Aroma, of bourbon, caramel, and some oak. Flavor, caramel, toffee, some bourbon. There is a bit of a sticky sweetness to it. Medium bodied, the bourbon isn’t overpowering which is nice. Pretty solid stuff. ryan (1776), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 3, 2006 Updated: Apr 14, 2009Interesting beer, poured from bottle leaving a decent white head and a moderately strong scent of bourbon rising from the glass. I was somewhat surprised by the bourbon in the flavor and a slightly sour aftertaste in the beer. I received this beer VERY recently, so I can’t attribute the sourness to oxidation, I guess it came with the woody flavor that also filled the aftertaste.
I would love to try this beer on tap to compare bottle vs tap. While a good beer, it did not integrate the heavy presence of bourbon into the brown ale as well as I had hoped.
