I was somewhat surprised by the bourbon in the flavor and a slightly sour aftertaste in the beer. I received this beer VERY recently, so I can’t attribute the sourness to oxidation, I guess it came with the woody flavor that also filled the aftertaste.
I would love to try this beer on tap to compare bottle vs tap. While a good beer, it did not integrate the heavy presence of bourbon into the brown ale as well as I had hoped. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2006 From bottle. Pours a reddish brown with thin tan head. Nose is bourbon and brwon sugar. Flavor follows with hints of malts and nutty. Some of the typical brown ale flavors with some bitter in the finish. Nice palate and a good use of bourbon. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 29, 2006 12 oz bottle shared with and provided by gputty. Clear mahogany with a tan head. Big bourbon nose that mellows and lets a nice nuttiness flow through as it warms. Nice, thick body and good lacing. Bourbon flavors over a nice, even nutty malt backbone. This is a good example of a case where bourbon barrel aging pays off - beautifully integrated with the existing flavors of the original beer. Good stuff! Sammy (4056), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

White head that lasts a while. Bourbon aroma, and bold bourbon taste. We Canadians are not normally into bourbon, but a good effort at it. Sourish by-product, well malted away.

Wow bourbon aroma stands out for this beer if you want to call it beer. Brown body with decent head. Flavor is like a little malt presence with your whiskey. Little more like whiskey than beer. Without looking at alcohol content would of thought it was higher. IrishBoy (2720), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 12, 2006 Thanks monger for this beer. It pours a diet coke brown. An aroma of raisins, malt, vanilla. A sweet malty flavor wth vanilla kidking in, a light bitter that is pleasant. I can’t tell if the flavor I like so much is bourbon or alcohol warmth, what ever it is I like it. A mouth feel that is just a tad fizzy but just a tad. The mouthfell is solid just like the beer.Easily one of the best brown ales I’ve had.
