Smells a little off, initially. Chocolate, dark malt, and touch of bourbon. Very smooth and drinkable. Light vanilla, caramel, smoke, and nuttiness on palate. Slightly boozy finish, and a little watery. Overall good brew. Would like to see a fully barrel aged batch. msante79 (835), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 9, 2009 The bourbon barrel aging adds a quite distinctive taste that is not overbearing. Beneath the oak taste is a nut and malt character. The aftertaste is of bourbon whiskey as one should reasonably expect. tekhna (109), California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 7, 2009 Pours a darkish red, almost mahogany, not much head, no lacing. Prickly carbonation, touch of sweetness. Not a bad beer at all, but it wouldn’t be much without the bourbon aging. It’s definitely thin below the barrel, but the bourbon also doesn’t overwhelm. It complements, but there’s not that much to complement. nickd717 (1370), Palo Alto, California, USA

Medium-dark brown in color with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, nuts, bourbon, and dark fruit. Flavor malty with caramel, nuts, fruity notes, and bourbon on the finish. Smooth and medium-bodied. Really good for the style. NobleSquirrel (1114), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Nose is nutty and chocolate. The bourbon is not particularly prevalent in this one. Taste is chocolate, roasty, reasonably dry. Very distant vanilla note. Very fresh and very good. bluemooner (237), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

Taste is rich with chocolate and caramel malts, bourbon though not enough to overpower, wood, raisins, and a bit of vanilla. Finish is a little bitter with a bit of alcohol. shawn92 (5), Plymouth, USA does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 28, 2009 Had it on tap @ the 508 in downtown Minneapolis--the appearance was outstanding. It had a medium brown color w/ an almost creamy head. The bourbon flavor was definitely present but not at all overpowering. There was an aftertaste of "alcohol"--which I did not mind. This could be due to the fact I very much enjoy a nice glass of bourbon/whiskey.
