Medium-dark brown in color with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, nuts, bourbon, and dark fruit. Flavor malty with caramel, nuts, fruity notes, and bourbon on the finish. Smooth and medium-bodied. Really good for the style. NobleSquirrel (1121), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 1, 2009 Draft at Binny’s South Loop. Pours a nice, dark brown with an offwhite head. Nose is nutty and chocolate. The bourbon is not particularly prevalent in this one. Taste is chocolate, roasty, reasonably dry. Very distant vanilla note. Very fresh and very good. bluemooner (238), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 30, 2009 Pours a medium brown with a medium tan head. Smells of malts, light bourbon and raisins. Taste is rich with chocolate and caramel malts, bourbon though not enough to overpower, wood, raisins, and a bit of vanilla. Finish is a little bitter with a bit of alcohol. shawn92 (5), Plymouth, USA does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 28, 2009 Had it on tap @ the 508 in downtown Minneapolis--the appearance was outstanding. It had a medium brown color w/ an almost creamy head. The bourbon flavor was definitely present but not at all overpowering. There was an aftertaste of "alcohol"--which I did not mind. This could be due to the fact I very much enjoy a nice glass of bourbon/whiskey. madvike (356), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Bottle - Yum. Pours mahogany with a frothy tan head. Nose is bourbon, raisins, and tons of malt. Taste is wonderful, with caramelly malt, a nice subtle bourbon taste, vanilla, with hops on the finish balancing it all out nicely. Creamy and medium-bodied. I love this take on a brown ale, which make an otherwise forgettable beer something I would gladly pull from the shelf. nbutler11 (771), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 30, 2009 On tap at the Map Room. Pours a dark mahogony color with a trim tan head. Sorely missing the bourbon in the aroma -- this is much closer to a caramely amber. Tastes of baker’s cocoa, sour red grapes, plenty of malt, and alcohol. Drinkable, but not very memorable. hombrepalo (780), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 29, 2009 12 oz bottle from Archer Liquors. Pours out a nice brown color with a decent beige head. Aroma is sweet. has hints of caramel. The bourbon to me was too soft, the caramel malts stuck out more than anything. Still a smooth tasting brown ale. ajm (965), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 25, 2009 Bottle from a long-ago trade with Monger. Pours a pretty thick brown with woody texture. Nose is lightly sour and roasty. Taste is a nice sour woody bourbon on top of a sightly grainy brown ale. Nicely thick. Not a super-treat, but certainly memorable and good.
