Aroma is faint besides lots of oaky vanilla. Very oak forward beer, not so much bourbon but just buttery oaky vanilla, nice hop bite with brown sugar. I bet this brown ale is pretty tasty, too bad the strong oak is getting in the way. Almost taskes like a very fine creamy rootbeer. Some light bourbon in the finish. Medium bodied with fizzy soda carbonation. jstraw (766), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2009 Bottle courtesy of theisti. Pours a hazy orange-brown with a creamy beige head that diminishes to a thin skin. The nose is a round, fruity, nutty malt with an unmistakably sweet/woody bourbon note. Medium-bodied and soft, almost creamy, with a mildly astringent, nutty finish. The flavor features an interestingly bright malt profile for a brown: sweet chestnut and toffee malt notes conclude in a roasty, lingering, mild nut and bourbon aftertaste. I would never have thought to barrel-age a standard brown, but it works. In fact, this is one of the better browns that I’ve tried. Thanks again for the bottle, Tim. Aroma - malt and some bourbon which smells like coconut in this brew.
Flavor - nice sweet coconut flavor with nice balance of malt and vanilla.
Palate - light/medium mouthfeel with good carbonation. Finish is smooth with nice roasted nutty aftertaste.
Overall - better than average and would like a bottle of this and rerate. TURDFERGUSON (1603), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA

It was sort of sweet with some dark fruits but not much bourbon character left if any at all. Pretty meh, for me. durhambeer (1214), Durham, USA

Fruity nose and some malt action. Toasty, with a unique and alluring nose. I’m pretty sure I was tasting coconut fruit (without any of the spiciness). Notes of tea and shag tobacco. No real bourbon here. I actually had no idea it was even supposed to have it. Pretty good, though, for sure. JCB (1767), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Subtle barrel notes in the nose, with some sweet fruits and vanilla. Some hints of coconut in the taste, an earthy dimension that enlivens this already delicious hoppy brown. More please. emacgee (1881), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
