| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 4, 2008 Aroma- Bourbon and oaky tones dominate, faint hints of sweet chocolate and caramel malts linger beneath the boozey aromas, dark fruit esters in the background, no diacetyl.
Appearance- Dark amber-brown hue, minimal off-white head dissipates quickly, good clarity.
Flavor- Bourbon and oaky wood flavors fight with the sweet chocolate and caramel malts throughout, nutty tones gradually creep in, the faint hop bitterness again gets washed out by the bourbon and oak flavors, molasses and dark fruit linger midway, finishes sweet and boozey, no diacetyl.
Mouthfeel- Medium-bodied, moderate-low carbonation, alcohol warming in the finish.
Overall- The bourbon dominates, as opposed to accentuates, the existing sweet and nutty malt profile, while the malts and balancing bitter hops are perceivable they are unable to gain ground on the barrel-aged flavors, while this beer is not to style it is still enjoyable and unique.
