miketd (375), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Apr 25, 2008 Not sure who sent this, but thanks! Pour is mahogany with a big whitish head. Aroma is woody, booze, caramel, toffee and spice. Roasty malt flavor and somewhat dry. High carbonation. Medium to light body. Meh.
jjpm74 (3110), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle courtesy of tytoanderso. Pours brown with a thin white head. Smells of caramel, vanilla, bourbon. Tastes sweet and oaky with a dry finish. BrotherGrendel (186), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Oct 4, 2008 Aroma- Bourbon and oaky tones dominate, faint hints of sweet chocolate and caramel malts linger beneath the boozey aromas, dark fruit esters in the background, no diacetyl.
Appearance- Dark amber-brown hue, minimal off-white head dissipates quickly, good clarity.
Flavor- Bourbon and oaky wood flavors fight with the sweet chocolate and caramel malts throughout, nutty tones gradually creep in, the faint hop bitterness again gets washed out by the bourbon and oak flavors, molasses and dark fruit linger midway, finishes sweet and boozey, no diacetyl.
Mouthfeel- Medium-bodied, moderate-low carbonation, alcohol warming in the finish.
Overall- The bourbon dominates, as opposed to accentuates, the existing sweet and nutty malt profile, while the malts and balancing bitter hops are perceivable they are unable to gain ground on the barrel-aged flavors, while this beer is not to style it is still enjoyable and unique.
