Rich and sweet with a ton of caramel, pecan, and vanilla tones. Ends with a bit of peat and a little touch of hayish bitterness. Very light mouthfeel comparatively.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Bottled. A dark red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel, while the flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. joechristenson (25), Minnesota, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 15, 2009 Small head with some lacing -- maintains a marginal ring. More burnt orange than brown, with some hints of red. Aroma is mild but sweet -- some vanilla sweetness, a faint floral hop quality, and sweet malts. Fizziness hits first -- too carbonated for my tastes - but it soon shows a decent balance between the sweet roasted/vanilla malts (the bourbon definitely comes through) and some drier citrus hops. Not tremendously complex, but as others have noted, this is close to (if not) a session beer. Palate is drier than expected for the sweetness, but is detectable almost exclusively through the middle of the palate. Finishes with a tingle. Not bad for a wintertime session. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Nov 30, 2009 unfiltered brown, small tan head. rich toffee and tangy bourbon approach, malty caramel across the middle, light prickly black-pepper tinged yeast in the finish. texture is moderately caustic with a small dose of petroleum and a heavy amount of black patent malt. good enough. markwise (1187), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 17, 2009 Holy cow! (And I don’t just say that because this beer is from WI). A sessionable bourbon beer! Pours dark brown with a white head. Nose is maple, bourbon, roasted malts, and some nuts. Flavor starts fizzy then goes to malt, nuts, and a mild, mellow bourbon quality. This beer has a great niche... much of the bourbon flavor with a mildness and a sessionable quality. Medium bodied and very nice. thomson1 (9), Illinois, USA does not count | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 11, 2009 no head, no lace, good flavor but on the sweeter side which is unexpected considering a portion is aged in bourbon barrels. A unimpressive brown ale. JaBier (1233), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 30, 2009 12oz bottle. Amber/brown pour with a big beige head. Aromas of sweet malt, caramel, bread, hops and wood. Subtle oak flavor up front, followed by caramel and then a dry finish. The barrel is not overdone on this one, which is refreshing. arkurzynski (99), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2009 Pours dark amber/brown with thin head. Aroma of roasted malts and alcohol. Can easily tell from the first sip that this is aged in a barrel. Good balance, but a bit of an alcohol taste that comes through. Dry finish. bhensonb (4345), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 8, 2009 Bottle from Archer Liquor. Pours ruby with a 4-finger "rocky" beige head. Aroma is sweet malt and arguably vanilla from a barrel. Medium body with mild, creamy carbonation. Flavor is very smooth roasted malt. Finishes more bitter than not, and with time the vanilla/oak aspect is quite noticeable. It’s a very good beer.
