Initial taste reminds me of eating Smuckers Strawberry jam on toast but more acidic. Way too sweet here. Did someone drop a jolly rancher in the brew kettle? Blech. This was a drain-pour for me. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 15, 2006 Clear reddish-brown/copper color. Medium sized light tan frothy head with a bit of cream in it. Aroma is a bit of musty hershey syrup, with some brown sugared nuts (those street-side stands with the sugary almonds, pecans, etc). Taste has chocolate tree bark with a bit of sour pine and wheaties. Overall, okay but not too impressed. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 11, 2006 Clear, magnifying brownish-bronze in color with a frozen tundra sheaf for the head and creamy tan vellum lace. Aroma is retched. Sharpies and tar on shingles. It’s hard to sniff past the permanent markers. Mustering-up enough strength, we’re able to decipher wafts containing charcoal, licorice-coated pecans and artificial chocolate syrup. Flavor isn’t as depressing, but it’s still a setback. Soot sprinkled on brown sugar oatmeal with a swirl of molasses. Prune skin and pepper countermand a chocolate bubblegum sweetness. Aluminum tins aging stiff pecans, and the experiment backfired. It’s like sucking on chocolate-covered nuts from Aldi. As carbonation subsides and we push 60 degrees Fahrenheit, it rights itself slightly. Syrupy, viscous and tannic at times, and even some astringency. Malt driven, prickly, wholesome carbonation, finishing with cocoa powder over a mixed bowl of bran and rice crispies. Hard to shake the artificial chocolate syrup suffocation, and I’m thankful I didn’t opt for the sixer of this stuff. 1FastSTi (2588), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 30, 2005 Poured from a bottle I picked up last night, the beer pours to a clean looking mahogany colored body with a decent, creamy beige head. The aroma is vanilla, cream soda, raisins, apricots, and butter. Very strange, but that’s the best description I can give. The flavor is kinda weak, nothing really standing out. Hints of apricots and vanilla and yellow raisins. It is good in flavor, however. The palate is medium-light bodied with noticeable carbonation. Overall, a decent attempt at a "Wisconsin-interpreted" dopplebock. (at least that’s what the label kinda proclaims). MIBRomeo (1966), Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 30, 2005 Mahogony color nice tan head well laced. Smells very light odd aroma has raisens butter and a light toffee smell. Palate is fairly avg some decent carbonation. Flavor is odd for a doppelbock a wierd fruit and toffee blend along with some light raisens. Ok I guess. LtJudge (432), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 17, 2004 Very "thin" for a doppel. Deep brown color that pours a thick frothy head. Nose is very fruity. Apricot flavor dominates although hints of caramel and molasses are present as well. Very strong finish. brewblackhole (1385), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
