Aroma is extra sweet caramel and fruit. Taste was sweet; raisins, brown sugar and bandages. A bit warm. A little disappointing, with the bandages and all. BBB63 (4283), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 28, 2007 Bottle and served in my Great Lakes snifter: Mahogany hued with a short lived frothy head but some lace and oily legs. The aroma has notes of oxidized barley and bready malts, caramel and toffee, earthen yeast esters (think pottery soil), moderate grassy and resiny hops, a hint of prune and fig, and even a touch of wood. The taste is very traditional English Styled with the malt the main focus and the hops more of a complementary factor. The is just enough spicy hop sharpness to keep this from becoming cloy. The mouth feel is sticky and lush with just a light kick of alcohol upon the finish.
I think this could age out a few more years to peak. Enjoyable but not all that. Worth a try for any ratebeerian however. cbkschubert (2027), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

No lacing. Has a spicey malt aroma. Flavor is spicey esters. Medium body. Noticeable alcohol presence. Not the best BW but worth a try. Thanks Scott. JohnC (2288), Mission Viejo, California, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 17, 2007 This pours an opaque amber with a large off white head. For a barleywine, the flavor is very mild and finishes with a bite.There’s a bit of maltiness and the aroma is feint. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 13, 2007 Really malty aroma with dried cherries, peat-smoke and floral notes. Ruby-amber in color with a thin head that fades. Strong peaty flavor is what I notice first, but there is a lot going on, with sweet, nutty, sticky, syrupy caramel malt. I can tell this has been aged and am digging the flavors. Nice and oily texture, fairly full body and no noticeable alcohol. Pretty good. brentfeesh (1041), Gadsden, Alabama, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a cherry amber color. A bit hazy with a light head. Sweet aroma with prunes and sugared dates. Fairly juicy with toffee undertones. Flavor is big and malty with dates, Maple syrup (?), molasses, big dark fruit, cola, and is there chocolate in there (?). Quite boozy really. The body is a bit more watery than I’d like but it still has some slickness to it. Enjoyable. argo0 (7032), Washington DC, USA
