Pours deep bronze with a small, but attractive tannish orange head. The aroma has thick caramel malt, can sugar, anise and dark chocolate. The flavors are thick, yet clean. ther is also some horehound candy and light spice. Thick body with some light soft carbonation that is pretty slick and cloying. The flavor starts with thick malt with caramel that is overly sweet, cotton candy, sweet licorice - basically oversweet . The finish has heavy alcohol burn. A fair barleywine. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 12, 2007 Hazy brown with small tan head and some moderate lacing. A heavy malt aroma with scotch like biscuit. Average alcohol in the nose as well. Finish lasted for a while on this sweet acidic beer. Hints of bourbon and some sourness. Finish was thick. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2007 Picked up bottle at Coffee Ground in Eau Claire, WI, and shared with Brewfiend. Part of the Breweries Gone Wild Series. Pours a hazy amber brown brew with a and off-white short lived head. Aromas include bread biscuits, roasted nuts, and light toffee. Hardly any hops or yeast in flavor. Brew has a long flavor and heavy on the sweet side. Finish has a thick texture and an average finish. A good sipper. jrob21 (1283), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 4, 2007 The smoke is what you notice most about this bad boy. It is not overpowering but subtle and adds to the uniqueness of the beer. No overly alcoholic bite like some bw’s. Well balanced with fruit/plum flavors. I got no head out of my bottle. I always feel a little dirty when I talk about a beer’s head. Maybe that’s just me. Aroma is faint but of roasted, smoky, malt. GreatLibations (1470), Last Supper, Arizona, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Mar 29, 2007 Pours a velvety aged apricot color w/ a shallow froth that quickly reduces to nothing. A pinstripe is all you get for residual lacing. Aroma is sweet. Full nectar w/ few residual effers. Almost still. Big and malty w/ a defined earthy smokiness. Hops rate is up there balancing it all out. The usual flavors coming and going but the smokiness I really like. The finish is long w/ a mild yet lasting bittering component. Highly recommended. kmeves (1081), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 27, 2007 Bice frothy tan head that ever so slowly dissipates. Deep amber hue. Very fruity nose with a hint of biscuit. Medium sweetness no doubt from the heavy amount of caramel malt that must have been used then more bitter at the end. Overall a very enjoyable barleywine. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 24, 2007 Slightly hazy dark amber/orange pour. Extremely viscous, with yellow cream-like compacted bubbles that, instead of forming a head, congregate around the edge of the glass. Looks menacing, somewhat oily and gummy appearance. Very hoppy aroma, spicy, with caramel malts aplenty. Limited crystal malt. Notes of pineapple, apple, melon, honey and lesser other fruits. Apparently no attempt was made to mask the alcohol, brutish in that department. At warmer temperatures, rousing creates a lasting lemon meringue colored head. Flavor is not as robust as the nose indicated it would be: toasted malts, caramel, hops(earthy, grassy), quite the herbacious taste. Fruit takes a weaker role in the flavor. Finishes salty, mildly bitter and grainy. Palate is medium to full bodied, syrupy and stings from hop resins. Different and enjoyable.
