Light aroma of malt and little alcohol and caramel. Nice flavour of malt, caramel not a quite hoppieness at all. But very nice endded ends up little bitter. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 19, 2007 12oz. bottle. Powerful, sweet, fruity aroma (blueberry?), some light toffee and phenols present, perhaps some dusty nuttiness and faint spruce in the background. Lightly hazy dark copper color with a very slight head. Flavor is predominantly sugary and sweet, but thin at the same time, somehow. The alcohol makes its considerable presence apparent from about midpoint onwards, the phenols again surfacing at the end and blending with a moderate amount of spicy bitterness. Smooth and thin on the palate with a full body, of course. Certainly different but not really that enticing as it seems to be missing some richness and depth. Thanks anyway to Tom for the chance to try it. BeerVirgin72 (820), Pataskala, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 13, 2007 Bottle courtesy of OhioDad...Thanks Scott! Poured a dark amber color with nice fuzzy head...Very carbonated. Smelled of sweet malt. Taste was extreme malt up front, and WOW, quite a bit of hops on the backend...This was much less sweet then some barleywines I have had, and I did not really care for the hoppiness. Felt it overpowered the other ingredients. Interesting, but not a great barley wine. CaptainCougar (5538), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2007 Pours a murky copper orange with a thin wispy white head. Aroma of sweet, lightly toasty caramel candy and some lightly earthy piny hops. Body starts fairly full and malty with lots of toasty sweet caramelized sugar and decent grapefruity bittering hoppy balance. A decent barleywine, but the malt profile could show a little more fullness and complexity. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 9, 2007 Aroma: berries, bubblegum and sugary strawberries (it smells fruity) but no depth or richness...No head at all, hazy and cloudy mahogany-colored body. The flavor isn’t rich at all - strawberry flavor makes it seem more like a spring/summer beer than a winter warmer. Strange esters - like band-aids? Something doesn’t sit right with me in the flavor, but I can’t quite place a finger on it. Bitter finish, without too much sweetness. notalush (2693), Denver, Colorado, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark orange color. Head is fluffy and off white with good retention and lacing. Full bodied and delicately sweet on the tongue. Pleasant aroma and flavor of peated malt reminiscent of a a lot of solid scotch ales I’ve tried. There is also some rum-soaked caramel. Unlike most barley wines I’ve had, but good nonetheless. Maybe bet this is what barley wines tasted like north of Hadrian’s wall.
