Dark sugar and alcohol nose. Lots of toffee and dark caramel sweetness and some honey. Dark pit fruit flavors with a mild smokiness of which I would have like more. Thanks to JCapriotti for the bottle. Pailhead (2597), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Bottle: The aroma is very fruity with apple, banana, and light caramel. It pours a hazy reddish-orange with a small off-white head. The flavor starts with a lots of caramel and banana. The finish has light bitterness with moderate band-aid that get stronger as it warms and really lingers in the aftertaste. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 25, 2007 Dark Brown with Red Hue...White Bubbly Ring. Dark Fruit/Fig/Raisin, Toffee Aroma. Noticeable Alcohol Warming. Alot of Smoked Malt...Which is Quite Interesting for a Barley Wine, But You Must Enjoy This Flavor For it Dominates the Brew....Bread Yeast, Dark Fuit, Dark Bread and Toasted Notes Still There, but The Smoked Notes Make up This Brew. Full body, smoother than balanced. Rich. Solid barleywine. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 18, 2007 12oz bottle acquired in multiple trades (drewbeerme, CaptainCougar & Ty5592). Poured a medium reddish / brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of roast, dark fruits, caramel, and had a light band-aid thing going on. Tastes of caramel, light chocolate, light smoke, and some dark fruits. Light alcohol burn in the finish. iowaherkeye (1860), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 16, 2007 12oz with no date. Pours a clear ruby brown with a one finger beige head that slowly fades to a thick ring. Aroma is peated malt and smoke--mmmmm. Kinda reminds me of Immort Ale, if I remember correctly. There is also some caramel and raisins, pipe tobacco, a little earthiness, and some alcohol. Flavor is big peated malt and smoke up front, a bit vinous and rainsiny, some wood and ash are in there, as well as the tobacco--though not quite as strong as the aroma led on. Dry moderately bitter finish. Medium bodied with low carbonation. If not for the peated malt (which I love) I don’t think this would’ve been as good. As it is, I found it quite nice. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 11, 2007 Bottled. Poured clear garnet with a dusting of white and a loose ring. Aroma found a hefty dose of darker fruits with alcohol accents and smoked peat. Flavor picked up rum-soaked dark fruits, heavy smoked peat (which really made the beer), some herbal notes, tobacco, and faint vanilla. Felt light on the palate at first, but really filled out with alcohol-spiked peaty malts. Left sticky peat, tobacco, and tar on the lips at the finish. Warming. This was a nice brew as it warmed up and I enjoyed the smokiness.
