Wow this tastes smoked...Pours cloudy darkish amber with one finger of light amber head. Aroma is light but mostly vanilla, maybe some candy-malt sweetness, maybe a small dose of pine. Hint of plastic/vinyl as well. Mouthfeel reasonably full, pretty smooth, lightly sticky on back end. Nice persistent rings of weepy lacing. Flavor is quite smoky, esp. in fore (is this a smoked?). Tastes of bacon, vanilla, caramel, light rock candy, hints of grapefruit and pine. Fair bitter bite, esp. in finish. Lingering bitterish and sweet aftertaste. Not bad. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 17, 2007 Thanks to Ughsmash for the bottle. Weak almost watery aroma with some caramel malt. Dark reddish brown in appearance. The palate is thick and sticky--quite nice. Taste is of hot caramel malt and plenty of hops. Seems to have a grainy quality to it with yeast flavors in the aftertaste. BeerandBlues2 (3225), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 14, 2007 Bottle provide via trade with Monger. Pours hazy tawny with a spare fizzy off-white head, mostly diminshing, spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel), average hops (flowers, perfume), average yeast (dough, musty) with notes of alcohol, peach, cherry and honey. Full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness. emacgee (1891), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 12, 2007 Thanks brewblackhole. The color is a deep ruby, definitely reddish. The resulting head was thin, amberish, and didn’t last long. As with the barley wines I’ve had so far the aroma is wonderful. Sweet and fruity, definitely hints of alcohol, some caramel or sweet diacetyl. Last I had Old Ruffian and the aroma prepared me for something that didn’t come out. I’m afraid that this may be the case as well. And as it turns out I was right. Strange taste, very strange. Goodness, sort of lacks complexity as well. Okay, lets try and disec this. Alcohol for sure, musty basement taste, dificult to describe, not really hops and not really malty, although there is some sweet bread/caramel in there. Definitely a letdown after the aroma. Palate is average and the finish is warming. I hope their Bourbon Porter is better. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

The head was thin, white and creamy. The aromoa was alcohol fruit, sweet caramel, and perhaps a slight aged taste. The flavor was a little earhty, alcohol, citris, and aged. The palate was full and smooth. The finish was warm and lingering. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 12, 2007 Bottle from ryan. Pours out a reddish brown color without much of a head so to speak. Smell is fruity, similar to strawberries, with a nice light smoked smell. Taste is sweet and smokey, very similar to immort ale. Good stuff, pretty easy to drink. Not sure if this will benefit from age because I think its pretty good right now. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA
