12oz bottle that’s been sitting around for awhile..... pours a cloudy dark cinammon brown and a soapy/wispy white head.... dark fruits and candied sugar upfront in the aroma, followed by caramel malt....dark fruits and caramel malt upfront. some subtle tobacco and peat in the flavor but to a lesser extent as well. average mouthfeel. booze only slightly detectable in the finish but just barely.

Numero #500. Poured from an ’06 Grrrowler. Lots of candy sweetness in the aroma. More to match on the pallate. Sweet mollases, carmel, and old fruit. Very, very rich stuff. The 6oz glass I had took some time to go down. Slighty booze burn on the back side. THis aged well, but was a bit on the sweet side for me to really spank any babies about.

7-13-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to kramer17801
Very thick dark amber pour with a thin off-white head. Smell is caramel and honey and fruity but very light and not very complex. Flavor is caramel and alcohol - up front and in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and decent.

Bottle in trade courtesy of kramer17801. Thanks!
Pours a rich muddy, opaque brown with a creamy beige head. Smell is very metallic with some lightly fruity notes behind, but not very aromatic or inviting. Taste is dull up front with some fruity flavors behind and a lightly alcoholic finish. Really pretty thin in the flavor department and very short lived. Some light nuttiness lingers, but still a pretty abrupt finish. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Not terrible tasting, but really wasn’t that flavorfull, either, and the nose was a bit of a turnoff.

Review from 2006. Tyranena’s newly released Barley Wine? Hell yeah, let’s give it a try! Poured a very nice maroon color with a beige head with good retention and nice lacing. Sadly, from here it all fell apart. Smell was like a combination of pine and cat piss. I don’t say cat piss to be childish, that’s what it smelled like, and depending on whether or not they used Cluster hops in this, Cluster hops have been known to give such an aroma. Taste is the same, just couldn’t take it. Ignoring the taste, the characteristics of the mouthfeel, medium-full bodied with medium carbonation, would be considered good to me, so I will not bring them down just because of the taste. I feel that taste does affect drinkability and will rate accordingly, this was an absolute drain pour, couldn’t even have half of it. I cannot assume this was an off bottle because it just got to the store and was transported immediately to my fridge. In the chance that this was an off bottle, I will try this again, and will change my review if deemed necessary. Although I haven’t posted official reviews for some of the Tyranena products I’ve had, I’ve been pleased on every occasion, except this one. Edit: I have tried this beer a couple times now and been extremely disappointed on all accounts. I’m not wasting any more money to try to find a bottle that tastes good, I think this one just doesn’t agree with me.

Pours a cloudy, hazey copper colour with a big white head. Aroma is strong of alcohol, barley (der) and grapes. Taste is pleasent, semi sweet with a long lasting finish.

Thanks to ogglethorp for the trade. Pours a hazy brownish amber with amber/orange/ruby notes and a smaller bubbly/creamy off white head that left some lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, leather, smoke, tobacco, lots of raisins, touch of vanilla, some molasses and toffee notes. Flavor of raisins, other dark fruits, smoke, toffee, molasses, some vanilla and nuts.
