Commercial Description:
This Barley Wine has a very rich flavor complexity. Deep in color with a full body and a "Big Beer" Spank Me Baby! taste to match.

Bottle. Body-muddy brown body with minimal CO2. Nose-Meow-Mix, burnt plastic, flax seed, very light formaldehyde, smoked meat-smells like a BBQ fueled by a chemical fire. Taste-BBQ, meaty, salty, numbs the tongue, acrid finish, smoke, low to medium sweetness, mildly raw. Overall quite disappointing in a burned horse kind of way.

Rich, ruby colored appearance, a bit clear, very carbonated, with a slim ring of foam over and above... Aroma is sweet and luscious, dominated by ripe, dark fruits, further alcoholic hints, cognac, and dark rum, a boozier maple syrup, maybe...port wine mingled with molasses, ... Taste: sweet, ripe, fruity, wine-like, rich and very rewarding...leather and licorice licks in, also...delicious. Booze sticks out in this, and it gets farther into the flavor than I like. Does it spank me, daddy? Perhaps...Is it better than the average barleywine...maybe not...creamy in the mouthfeel, until the sting of the delicious fruity flavor kicks in....yum. Not quite like how I like a barleywine, but...not bad, either...

Bottle. Rusty brown pour with no head. Aroma is actually fairly smoky, charred, astringent and hoppy, a bit of slab bacon. Pretty nice. Burns, though. A bit of smoke in the flavor, some cheese, foot, with a finishing caramel. Tough to drink, unsurprisingly. This bottle is a year or two old by now, it’s fairly mellow (and was probably harsh as hell when fresh), but I wouldn’t age this much longer, it feels like it would thin out into nothing.

(Bottle) Pours a cloudy amber body with a small beige head. Aroma of plastic, dried apple, smoke, band aid, roastiness, and salty. Flavor of aluminum, light citrus, ash tray, plastic, and caramel malt with a bitter finish.

Bottle, aged approx. 2 years. Pours a nice looking, cloudy, dark caramel amber. The head is small, foamy, and off-white in color, fading quickly to a wispy film. Sugary legs drip back down to the body, leaving virtually no lacing behind. The nose shows big-time caramel, brown sugar, toffee and vanilla. Definitely on the malty side of balanced, but some orangey hops do come through a bit. Smells slightly alcoholic, but not overly so. The flavor is again quite malty, with caramel and toffee dominating. There’s a bit of a surprising smokiness that is somewhat reminiscent of DFH ImmortAle. Vanilla plays a big role, which I really like in a barley wine. A slight citrus hop bitterness is present in the background, but it seems to have faded quite a bit with age. Substantial, smooth, sugary mouthfeel. Finishes pretty warm and slightly prickly. Overall, a very nice barley wine. Tyranena does their big beers quite well.

Courtesy of Quake1028. Pours copper-ish orange with some haze and lasting tan foam ring. The aroma for some reason has wood notes that mix nicely with plums, dates and raisins. I also get grainy Munich type malts as the nose becomes moderately hot. The taste is similar to the aroma with malty sweet stickiness that bleeds into pine hop bitterness and the woody note noticed in the nose. The dark fruity esters pick up midway and grow to a level of just beyond noticeable. Yummy. Nice sweet rich maltiness and pine hop flavors are there at the finish and into the after taste.

I DIG THIS

Thanks to Bu11zeye for this. Poured a light cloudy brown with sweet malty aroma with slight smoke. Flavor was sweet malty, smoke notes, with slight hop bitterness, some salt. Medium body, low carbonation.

Bottle courtesy of Monger. Thanks James!

12oz bottle. Caramel brown body with deep mahogany undertones. Wispy brown head is barely coaxed up upon vigorous swirling. Nose is hot, with caramel, tropical fruit esters, rum soaked bread and green hops. First taste is fruity and boozy, but more depth comes on the back end and on repeated samples. The green hop notes, along with the doughy hints and caramel are well melded and make this one stand out. Medium bodied, rounded and soft on the palate. Finish is astringent and hot, with caramel and fruit backing, pineapple and mango. I liked this one more than I was expecting to, and that’s always nice.
