(12oz bottle) Pours a cloudy orange-brown body with a small off-white head. Aroma of toffee, citrus, caramel, maple, and some dried pine needles. Flavor of toffee, hops (grass, pine, earth), light cola, and caramel with a dry, bitter finish.

12oz bottle.
Pours a nice, hazy, sediment-filled garnet-orange with thin white head that leaves lots of lacing in its wake. Aroma is bitter hops, hops, and more hops, oh, and maybe a hint of citrus and malt. Flavor is, as one might expect, utterly dominated by sharp hop bitterness, but wit little in the way of pleasant citrus notes or balancing from the malt found in better versions of the style. Medium palate has a bitter follow-up just in case you didn’t get enough bitterness when you took the sip that you’re swallowing. Just one more example of the countless impetuous, in-your-face American IPAs done in a style I have never grown to appreciate and probably never will.

Sediment-heavy deep copper color under a short but creamy yellowhite head. Aroma is lemony, grassy, grapefruity and mildly floral. Flavor finds a pleasantly lopsided nod towards PNW hops with a dominance of grapefruit with dashes of pepper and pine. Rather full mouthfeel while the hops linger with a slow burn to the tongue and upper palate. This beer’s sharp, potent flavors make me think that the alcohol content is greater than it actually is. This is an IPA that really holds its own. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ No idea how long ago he gave it to me, but I got this from Cornfield.

A- Pours a hazy orange hue with a big, fluffy, 2 finger off white head. S- Smells sweet, hints of piney hops. T- Taste is piney with a thick, bready middle full of light fruit and caramel notes leading into a big, bitter, back end. M- Medium bodied, decent carbonation. D- This is definitely an enjoyable brew. Doesn’t particularly stand out for me but I enjoyed it none the less.

12oz bottle via trade with FlandersNed (thanks, steve!). pours a hazy, darker ruby/copper with a few floaties and a light, whispy, tan head. aroma is solid good with spicy, citrus hops, touches of earthy pine, and a hint of candied sugar. flavor is very solid, showcasing the spicy and herbal nature of the hops on a background of lemon and orange citrus with a substantial, sweet/fruity malt presence tempering the big hop bitterness. finish is a kick of citrus followed by mild floral hop bitterness. palate is smooth and drinkable with good carbonation. overall, a solid IPA.

Bottle. A more or less clear, golden beer with an off-white head. Piney and resiny nose on a malty background. The flavor has malts in the back, with pine cones and resin up front. Nice bitterness. Maybe a bit much bitterness actually, as it gets almost astringent. Full body. The bitterness lasts for a long time, with some malty sweetness to support the resiny finish. Just plain lovely, nothing extraordinary, and very easy drinkable. (090327)

I can’t thank naproxen enough for the opportunity to try this brew, which I thought I would never get to try. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy caramel brown that shows bright orange when held up to light. There is also a big tan head that sticks to glass handsomely on the way down. The aroma very balanced with lots of citrus hops still showing after all this time in addition to some candied fruit aromas. However, there is plenty of caramel malts in the nose as well. I really think the taste has suffered a little more than the nose with the age on this one. There are some floral pine hops up front before giving way to the caramel malts. There is a lingering dry bitterness in the finish. I think this would have been a seriously tasty beer when fresh. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and fairly slick though the carbonation has held up well. This is a good beer that has probably lost a little over time. I’m not sure about the ABV, but I doubt it’s quite up to DIPA level and maybe that contributes to the age deterioration.
