Bottle at Chris O’s Shindig. Decent amber looks. Sickly nose. Heavy on the malt and hops and more hops and more hops. Flavour is FAR better. Juicy as hell and very assertive. Malty finish with plenty of length that jumps around all over the place. I’m not sure how balanced I would say it is when it’s just a full on assault like this but for once I loved it. Thick and creamy palate. Typical American unrefined madness but it’s excellent. johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 6, 2007 Poured dark red with off white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, and pine. Flavor started off very hoppy which mellowed out with the sweet malt finish. Excellent balance. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 4, 2007 Bottle from Woodman’s, Madison. Sweet and hoppy aroma. Dark reddish amber aroma with thin off-white head. Nice streaky lace. Hazy and steady carbonation with particalia visible. Very nicely balanced IPA. A good malt sweetness greets the considerable hop profile. A little chalky, which also comes through in the nose. Somewhat peppery. I brought three bottled IPAs with me camping two weeks ago: Smuttynose IPA, Great Divide Titan IPA and this brew. Of the three, I enjoyed this the most, which is saying something. I’m having a hard time trying to determine how this brew could be improved; there really aren’t any elements in which it is lacking. Low in alcohol for the amount of flavor it provides. Although Tyranena has been known for going a little of the top in it’s beer names, this one struck a cord with me. Maybe it was the bald guy with the goatee on the label.
