Once poured, the color is not quite amber, but not really gold, copper, ruby, or brown either. I guess it is some combination of all those colors! It has a lasting, dense and creamy ivory-colored head that leaves some nice layered lacing on the glass. The beer is a bit cloudy as well with some hop particles churning in due the lively carbonation. Wow, I’m not sure if this is an Extra IPA, Imperial/Double IPA, or an American Strong Ale. It is definitely strong, malty, hoppy, and bitter! The flavor is nicely balanced between a rich, toasted toffee maltiness and a moderate citrus, pine, and perfume-like floral bitterness. The bitterness is only slightly aggressive and well within the XIPA boundaries. There are also various fruit flavors wafting around in there as well. The finish is signature Tyranena (floral flavor and lasting bitterness). This beer has a medium body and is a little sticky on the lips but smooth in the mouth. Yep, There no doubt about it... Tyranena definitely makes some great brew!

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2007 12oz, no date. No idea how I haven’t rated this--I’m sure I have some notes somewhere. Clear copper orange with a 1/2 finger off-white head with pretty decent retention. Aroma is perfumey with lots of pine and bitter grapefruit rind, a good caramel background that borders for a moment on being burnt toffee, though not quite. Flavor is lots of pine and grapefruit again, some resinous hop oils, and again the caramel almost toffee thing going on. Bitterness is pretty high (7 of 10) as it lingers for quite a while. Light to medium smooth body with moderate carbonation. These guys really know their IPAs and IIPAs--very very good IPA. jarlbartar (88), Janesville, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 30, 2007 Poured a transparent rich amber with a very small head and no retention, but some nice lacing throughout. Aromas of apricots abound. Taste was WOW! Very intricate balance of spicy and floral hops with an abundance of sweet and bitter malts, noted malts of butter and toasted caramel.. I am not a hophead, but I just might become one after this brilliantly put together beer. RAYBOY01 (1858), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 27, 2007 Floculate galore as I pour this golden amber brew...releasing it’s great big PNW aromas of pine boughs and grapefruit slices. The beer has touches of orange blossoms and tangerines...and hints of pineapple and mango, while we’re at it...and these huge hop notes tend to delciously override the rather tame caramel and toffee maltiness underneath it. The tongue, however, is not bruised by the hops, merely roughed up a bit. No harm done...I probably was asking for a tune-up anyway! IrishBoy (2719), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 24, 2007 Bottle courtesy of pantanap (thanks!). Poured a nice shade of red/amber with small off-white head. Aroma of pure hops...no mistake about it. These were the good piney sort of hops i like in my IPAs. The taste started a bit malty at first, but then led nicely into the hoppiness I was expecting. A pretty good balance between the malt and hops here, and I got a nice clean bitter finish that lingered for a little bit. Definitely refreshing. Didn’t get as much of the astringency as others thankfully. A very well-done IPA. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 22, 2007 Bottle and served in standard pint glass: A deep amber hue with a fading ring of foam but there was outstanding lace. The aroma has notes of leafy, resiny, and citric hops, moderate toffee and bready malts, earthy and fruity esters abound. The taste is a good balance of sharp hop bitterness with a sweet very caramel malt presence. Lot of fruity overtones of pear, apricot and apple in there too. Light peppery and clove finish. The mouth is moderately aggressive and astringent, dry finish. A big IPA but not an IIPA and for that I thank you. An in-between of the two styles and very very tasty.
