jjpm74 (3087), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Oct 5, 2008 Bottle courtesy of tytoanderso. Pours gold with a rocky white head. Smells of resin, caramel, some light spice. Tastes of pepper, earth and some spice. BrotherGrendel (186), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Oct 4, 2008 Aroma- Subdued American hop aroma with clean grassy tones dominating, light citrus, moderate bread malts are present, no diacetyl.
Appearance- Dark gold hue with amber highlights, small white head mostly dissipates, good clarity.
Flavor- Moderate hop bitterness dominates although the hop flavors are lacking (subdued grass, citrus, pine), substantial clean malts balance out the lighter hop profile, light chalk, minimal esters, finishes dry and bitter, no diacetyl.
Mouthfeel- Medium-light body, high carbonation, smooth finish.
Overall- Fairly refreshing APA, good balance between hops and malts, the main weakness is a lack of hop flavors which is made more noticeable by the significant hop bitterness which dominates throughout, hops are also subdued in the aroma, carbonation is bordering on distracting, the grassy tones are too excessive for the style. golubj (1029), Redwood City, California, USA Sep 16, 2008 Bottle, thanks to kosko20. Nice amber pour some white head. Aroma is a mix of bready and sweet malt, and some older citrus hops. The flavor is the same, nice mouthfeel, sort of bready finish and lightly bitter in the finish. FunkyBrewster (143), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 12, 2008 Pours a golden orange color with a nice lingering white head. Aroma is very hoppy with a bit of lemony zest but with a detectable sweet caramel backbone. Flavor starts with a definite citrus fruit character that balances with the sweet edge that comes in the middle. The hops come much more apparent in the finish and there is a lingering bitterness. Medium body and medium carbonation. I actually really liked this pale ale and thought it was very well balanced. sersdf (867), chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 31, 2008 bottle. unpoured. smells like peanut shells. super musty aroma. tastes like orange marmalade. but only slightly. there’s not much to be happy about here.
