Pours black with slight amber at the edges and a very small beige head. I can smell some vanilla and espresso before I even lift the glass; when I get it to my nose, I get a seriously heavy molasses aroma, minimal chocolate, some ashiness, and a hint of an herb I’m having trouble placing (sage?). The flavor has obvious coffee right off... a slightly tart roast, probably a Latin American bean. That is followed by molasses, wood, and prune. A tiny hint of vanilla bounces around once in a while. There is some herbal bitterness that dries out the finish, and gives it a little bit of a whisky impression. Pretty good beer. Radek Kliber (4000), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada

Black colour with low, brown head. Chili and coffee/espresso aroma. Not all malty in mouthfeel/flavour. Good chili-chocolate balance in flavour. Low bitterness. Great taste here!

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 22, 2008 Aroma is chocolate, tons of coffee and expresso, rich port blended with cocoa.
Taste is cocoa, coffee, chocolate, mildness of coffee, but the presence of expresso. Strangely drinkable, no hop aggressiveness, but it is present. Smooth, oatmeal finish.
Very, very nice. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is alot of earthy, roasty coffee as well as alot of chocoate, some molasses and light chalk. Taste is no letdown with a plethora of coffee goodness, chocolate, and a nice amount of oatmeal. Body is creamy and full for a porter, and a bit slick from the oats- Finishes with lingering coffee, chocolate, light chalk. A touch of alcohol but otherwise well hidden. great stuff. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA

Rich black in color with thin watery tan head and nice spotted lacing. Nice aroma of chocolate and roasted coffee. When it first hits the tongue it is very sweet and then it finishes nicely with a dry chalky character. Still sweet overall, but very drinkable. Alcohol becomes somewhat present in the flavor as it warms a bit - but not too horrible. Would like a bit more body and creaminess but overall, pretty darn good and drinkable. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA

Pours black with a short lived light tan head. Smell is strong sharp coffee. Marshmallow and oatmeal in the nose too.
Taste is coffee and oatmeal with some dark chocolate roastiness. Body is medium with moderate carbonation. Alcohol is hidden well. Lasting bitter roast coffee flavor. Nice flavorful cooffe beer with a noticeable oatmeal influence. Very good beer.
